  • Patent number: 7001035
Abstract: An illumination device is provided to solve locally high luminance near point-shaped light sources, while preventing overall decrease in luminance at the light-emitting face of a light guide member. The illumination device includes a light source for generating light, and a light guide member which receives light from the light source at a light input face and emits light from a light emitting face. A continuous optical pattern with prism faces and flat faces is provided on the light input face. Light emitted from the light source is diffused in the plane direction by the optical pattern, so there is no occurrence of locally-high-luminance areas near the LEDs in the light guide member. Moreover, the luminance of the light emitted in a planar manner from the light-emitting face does not decrease.

  • Patent number: 6883934
Abstract: A light source device 41A, 41B or 41C comprising a lens 44A, 44B or 44C which receives light from a light emitting device 43 such as LED. The lens 44A is a lens having the property that the directivity of exiting light in the Y direction is higher than the directivity in the X direction perpendicular to the Y direction. Namely, the light emitted from the light emitting device 43 is condensed in a narrow angular range in the Y direction, and is scattered in a wide angular range in the X direction. When the light source device 41A is used as a light source of an illumination device of a liquid crystal device, the height direction of a light guide in which the dimension is small coincides with the Y direction, and the width direction of the light guide in which the dimension is large coincides with the X direction.

  • Patent number: 6712482
Abstract: An illumination device 4 includes a light guide 6 which receives light from a light source 7 at a light-receiving face 6a and emits the light from a light-emitting face 6b. A face 6c opposite the light-receiving face 6a of the light guide 6 is formed as an inclined plane. The light which has reached the inclined plane 6c reflects at an angle off the inclined plane 6c. Therefore, the frequency in diffusion of the light increases. As a result, the luminance of the light emitted from the light-emitting face 6b is improved. The luminance of a planar light can be made uniform by varying the shapes of diffusion patterns 12 disposed on a diffusion sheet 9 according to the distance from the inclined plane 6c.
