  • Patent number: 8363800
Abstract: A communication apparatus repeatedly outputs a first multi-carrier signal SS during predetermined periods T1, T2, T3, . . . , and outputs a second multi-carrier signal RS whose phase vector is different from that of the first multi-carrier signal SS, at a predetermined timing based on the first multi-carrier signal SS. The communication apparatus further detects the second multi-carrier signal RS output from another communication apparatus, which uses a different communication method from the communication apparatus. Accordingly, both communication apparatuses can differentiate the first multi-carrier signal SS from the second multi-carrier signal RS without performing relatively cumbersome modulation and other processes.

  • Patent number: 8295301
Abstract: Communication systems that use different physical layer (PHY) protocols can coexist on a communication medium (e.g., a powerline medium) by using an Inter-PHY Protocol (IPP). The different protocols may use different signal modulation schemes but still may have some features in common. The IPP includes a resource sharing mechanism that regulates access to the communication medium by devices functioning as communication devices (for example, devices communicating over a power line). A subset of devices that communicate among each other form a logical network that shares the medium with other logical networks that use either the same PHY protocol or a different PHY protocol.

  • Patent number: 8121202
Abstract: To provide a power-line communication method, a power-line communication device, and a power-line communication system, which can make communication with high communication efficiency even when the condition of a power line is changed. In step S101, a noise detection process is performed in correspondence to a time domain synchronized with a power source cycle of a power line. In step S102, a communication channel decision process of generating communication channels in the time domain is performed on the basis of the noise condition detected in step S101. In step S103, tone maps are prepared for the communication channels generated in step S102. When the preparation of the tone maps is ended, the tone maps are transmitted to a destination PLC and data are transmitted and received between a transmission-side PLC and a reception-side PLC by the use of the same tone map (step S104).
