  • Patent number: 7121440
Abstract: A stapler having a driver unit vertically separated from its clincher unit, which has a clincher base with a clincher. The clincher base is disposed to vertically reciprocate, and sheets inserted between the base and driver unit are clamped between the base and the driver unit when the base is reciprocated. The stapler has a first motor to operate the driver, and a second motor to reciprocate the clincher base and operate the clincher. In sequence, the second motor reciprocates the base and makes the base clamp the sheets, and then stops; the first motor makes the driver drive out the staple, and then stops; the second motor makes the clincher clinch the staple legs having passed the sheets, the base is returned, and the second motor stops; and after clinching, the first motor returns the driver to the initial position, and then stops.

  • Patent number: 7092436
Abstract: A system and method detect symbols of a modulated signal received via a plurality of channels of a wireless communications system. A symbol transmitted via the channels is initially estimated based on the channel estimate from either pilot symbol or previously estimated symbol, and then channel estimate is updated. The next estimate of the symbol is computed by using updated channel information and maximizing the expectation of the log likelihood function. The next estimate is then quantized according to the signal constellation. The quantized estimate of the symbol is compared with the previous estimate of the symbol to determine if the previous estimate of the symbol and the quantized next estimate of the symbol have converged. Otherwise, the quantized next estimate of the symbol is made as the input for the next iteration, and the updating, optimizing, quantizing, and comparing are repeated until the estimate converges.

  • Publication number: 20060146915
Abstract: In a time-hopped impulse radio system, each symbol is transmitted over a channel having different multipath components as a set of Nf frames. Each frame includes one pulse. All frames of a received signal corresponding to the symbol are sampled to generate Nfa×L samples, where L is the number of samples for each frame. Then, the Nfa×L samples are combined according to a minimum mean square error criterion to obtain a decision variable corresponding to the symbol.

  • Patent number: 7058691
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing Web content from pull and push based services running on Web content providers to mobile users. A proxy gateway connects the mobile users to the Web content providers. A prefetching module is used at the proxy gateway to optimize performance of the pull services by reducing average access latency. The average access latency can be reduced by using at least three factors: one related to the frequency of access to the pull content; second, the update cycle of the pull content determined by the Web content providers; and third, the response delay for fetching pull content from the content provider to the proxy gateway. Pull content, such as documents, having the greatest average access latency are sorted and a predetermined number of the documents are prefetched into the cache. Push services are optimized by iteratively estimating a state of each of the mobile users to determine relevant push content to be forward to the mobile user.

  • Patent number: 7027519
Abstract: In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems, iterative maximum likelihood channel estimation and signal detection is preformed. The channel estimation gives the maximum likelihood estimates of time domain channel parameters. A cost function is defined. An iterative process estimates a joint channel impulse response and a transmitted signal that minimize the cost function, and thus solves the channel estimation and signal detection problem jointly without having specific knowledge of the channel.

  • Patent number: 6981994
Abstract: This invention is directed to a process for increasing production of product that is formed in a reactor having a combustion section in which fuel is burned to produce heat to drive an endothermic reaction occurring within a reaction section. Production is increased by adding supplemental oxygen to air or other oxygen containing gas used to support combustion in the combustion section, thereby to generate more heat to support an increase in the endothermic reaction. Additionally, supplemental oxygen can be introduced into the reaction section to partially oxidize a reactant to generate heat and to allow an increase in the production of the product. Supplemental oxygen may be added directly to the steam-methane mixture, or to the combustion air.

  • Patent number: 6892804
Abstract: The wall thickness of at least a portion, which is plastically deformed, of a protruding portion used for calking is reduced to less than that of the other portions. Due to the foregoing, the bending rigidity of the protruding portion is decreased. Therefore, it is possible to bend (plastically deform) the protruding portion by a relatively low-intensity force. Accordingly, it is possible to easily execute the calking work (calking process) without the need to extend the length of the protruding portion (length from a forward end of the protruding portion to a bent portion). As a result, even if the pressure-withstanding property of an inter-cooler is enhanced by increasing the wall thickness of core plates, it is possible to prevent the calking workability from deteriorating and without increasing the size of the inter-cooler.
