  • Publication number: 20120169796
Abstract: There is provided an image display apparatus that corrects the gradation of an input video signal in accordance with an ambient illuminance, in which the adaptation amount of the eye and a surface reflection amount are calculated based on an illuminance signal acquired through a sensor, and the screen luminance of the screen and the gamma conversion for the video signal are controlled based on the adaptation amount of the eye and the surface reflection amount.

  • Publication number: 20120026208
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a set unit sets a display luminance signal indicating a luminance of a display unit. A first calculation unit calculates a first gamma characteristic signal of an image to be displayed, based on the display luminance signal and gray-scale levels of pixels of the image. A second calculation unit calculates a second gamma characteristic signal of each area of the image, based on gray-scale levels of pixels of each area. A conversion unit converts a gray-scale level of each pixel of the image, based on the first gamma characteristic signal and the second gamma characteristic signal of an area including a pixel to be converted in the image. The display unit displays the image in which the gray-scale level of each pixel was converted, based on the display luminance signal.

  • Publication number: 20100123696
Abstract: With regard to an image to be displayed on a display unit, a calculation unit calculates a display luminance from the input image. A luminance distribution acquisition unit takes a scene image including the display unit from a view position of the display unit, and acquires a luminance distribution as an average of luminances of the scene image. A correction unit corrects the display luminance, so that a corrected display luminance is within an estimated luminance range of perceptible difference of luminances on the display unit. The estimated luminance range is estimated with the average. The display unit displays the image based on the corrected display luminance.

  • Publication number: 20100054623
Abstract: A display luminance of an image signal is extracted from an image inputted. An observation distance is calculated as a relative distance between an observer and the display. A brightness of an environmental condition of the display is calculated. A visual angle of the image is calculated using the observation distance and a size of the display. A visual response function is calculated using the display luminance, the brightness of the environmental condition, and the visual angle. The visual response function represents relationship between the display luminance and a referential lightness of a human visual characteristic. A corrected display luminance corresponding to a referential lightness is calculated using the visual response function. The image is output on the display using the corrected display luminance.
