    Abstract: n-Propyl bromide based solvent compositions and methods for cleaning articles using said solvent compositions are provided. Such solvent composition comprise about 50 weight percent to 99 weight percent of n-propyl bromide, about 0.5 weight percent to 50 weight percent of alcohol, and at least 0.005 weight percent of a surfactant. Such solvent compositions remove at least one of water or water soluble contaminants. The solvent compositions and methods of the present invention are useful as a degreaser and/or cleaner in both for cold cleaning and hot rinsing systems for cleaning articles.

According to one method, an article to be cleaned is contacted with a solvent composition comprising about 50 weight percent to about 99 weight percent n-propyl bromide and about 0.5 weight percent to about 50 weight percent of an alcohol. Such methods remove at least one of water or water soluble contaminants. Such methods are useful as a degreaser and/or cleaner in both cold cleaning and hot rinsing systems for cleaning articles.
