  • Patent number: 6137504
Abstract: The present invention enables a more reliable and stable recovery operation on an ink jet head in which a shoulder is formed on a discharge port surface thereof. In the recovery operation, the discharge portion surface having an inclined surface portion constituting the shoulder is cleaned by a blade which is a rubber-like elastic member and which is movable on an axis on which discharge ports are arrayed on the discharge port surface. A distal end portion of the blade is parallel to the inclined surface portion and has a width which allows at least one edge of the blade to be within the inclined surface portion. Consequently, the blade can be pressed against the discharge port surface under a uniform contact pressure, and excellent cleaning can thus be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6010204
Abstract: A recording apparatus having a carriage which scans along a guide shaft and which is provided with recording heads includes a position detector for detecting the positions of the carriage in the scanning direction; and a fixing device for engaging with the carriage to regulate the carriage in the scanning direction when it is detected by the position detector that the carriage is in a given fixing position and fixing the carriage in the given fixing position. With the structure thus arranged, this recording apparatus is capable of preventing the carriage from being bent or deformed when the ink tanks and recording heads are detachably mounted or the gap adjustment for the recording heads are executed on the carriage, thus enabling the operation and positioning of the carriage to be executed exactly.

  • Patent number: 5988784
Abstract: Ink jet recording encounters deviations in the position at which a recorded dot is applied due to changes in the distance from the recording head to a recording medium, the carriage movement speed and the ink discharge speed or the like. When bidirectional recording is performed while moving the carriage having the recording head mounted thereon, deviations of the recorded dot may occur in the forward and rearward recording operations. The present invention is arranged in such a manner that values for correcting the deviations occurring in bidirectional recording and corresponding to the changes of the distance from the recording head to a recording medium, the carriage movement speed and the ink discharge speed or the like are previously stored. A drive signal, the timing of which has been corrected with the correction value, is used to operate the apparatus so that high-quality recordings free from deviations occurring in the bidirectional recording operation are obtained.

  • Patent number: 5896143
Abstract: A color ink jet printing apparatus including a single suction mechanism having a capping member designed to cap any one of the printheads of the apparatus and carrying out a suction recovery of that capped printhead. A plurality of additional caps which are not associated with the suction mechanism are provided for capping the printhead. Various printing moving schemes are devised to provide quick and efficient positioning of selected printheads opposing the suction mechanism to speedily service that printhead.

  • Patent number: 5588757
Abstract: A recording apparatus for performing recording uses a carriage mounted with a recording head moving along a guide shaft. The recording apparatus includes a magnetic linear encoder consisting of a scale element magnetized and a detection unit for detecting magnetized information magnetized to the scale element. Provided also are clicks formed on any one of the detection unit and the carriage and click engaging portions formed in the other one of the detection unit and the carriage. The clicks engage with the click engaging portions, whereby the detection unit is snap-locked to the carriage. This enables the detection unit of the magnetic linear encoder to be readily attached to the carriage and besides, when attached, prevents disorder of the information magnetized to the scale element. Further, even when a position of the carriage shifts corresponding to sheets having different thicknesses, a sliding load of the carriage does not change.

  • Patent number: 5540427
Abstract: The present invention provides a sheet convey apparatus having a convey roller contacting with a sheet while rotating to apply a convey force to the sheet, a pinch roller for cooperating with the convey roller to convey the sheet, a support for supporting a center of the pinch roller in its widthwise direction, and a biasing device for biasing the support in such a manner that the support means urges the pinch roller against the convey roller in the widthwise direction of the pinch roller.

  • Patent number: 5450106
Abstract: In a recording apparatus employing a magnetic linear encoder that includes a magnetized scale and a magnetic head movable along the scale, in order to enable efficient mounting of the scale on the recording apparatus and to enable tension adjustment of the scale, support members are provided for detachably supporting the scale, as is a device for providing tension during the mounting of the scale on side plates of the recording apparatus. Also, the magnetized portion of the scale is positioned behind the carriage. Further, the magnetic head is provided with dust shield members which are in contact with, but rendered slidable with respect to, the scale.

  • Patent number: 5373936
Abstract: A storage container for housing and storing an ink jet cartridge which has a recording head to discharge ink, and an ink tank to contain ink to be supplied to the recording head and which is structured to be exchangeable with respect to a recording apparatus comprises a capping member to be in contact with the ink discharge port surface of the recording head to cover the surface thereof and absorbing members conductively connected to the capping member to absorb ink which leaks from the recording head. With the capping member and absorbing member, an airtightness higher than that of the discharge ports is obtained in order to suppress the ink evaporation from the discharge ports of the recording head while the cartridge which is still in use is kept in the storage container.
