    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel including a plurality of pixels, and a control circuit configured to generate a source signal voltage supplied to each pixel. The liquid crystal display panel includes an active matrix substrate including a pixel electrode applied with a source signal voltage and a common electrode applied with a common voltage. The common voltage and the source signal voltage corresponding to each gradation are set such that a source-common center difference at least one of lowest and highest gradation levels is greater than the source-common center difference at least some of the other gradation levels. A degree of symmetry of a gradation level voltage is equal to or lower than 95% at least at one of gradation levels equal to or lower than a 127/255-th gradation level except for the lowest gradation level.

The forming the alignment sustaining layers includes the steps of: i) applying a predetermined voltage between a pixel electrode and a counter electrode while a switching element is in ON state; and ii) changing the voltage at a storage capacitor counter electrode into a voltage, of which the polarity is opposite to a voltage at the storage capacitor counter electrode in the step i), after the switching element in ON state has been turned OFF.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: pixel electrodes arranged in columns and rows, each including a reflective electrode region; scanning lines; and signal lines. The device sequentially supplies a scanning signal voltage to one of the scanning lines after another to select one group of pixel electrodes, connected to the same one of the scanning lines, after another, and then supplies display signal voltages to the selected group of pixel electrodes by way of the signal lines, thereby displaying an image thereon. The pixel electrodes are arranged such that the polarity of a voltage to be applied to a liquid crystal layer is inverted for every predetermined number of pixel electrodes in each of the rows and in each of the columns. The display signal voltage to be supplied to each pixel electrode is updated at a frequency of 45 Hz or less.
