  • Patent number: 6249266
Abstract: A fluorescent display device including a planar cathode is provided which is capable of carrying out setting of an interval between a cathode and an anode and alignment therebetween with high precision. A cathode substrate having an FEC formed thereon is mounted through a lead frame on support members. Lead wires of the lead frame are abutted against bumps on the cathode substrate. An anode substrate having a holding frame attached thereto is positioned with respect to the cathode substrate and the holding frame and lead frame are fixed to each other. Both substrates thus temporarily fixed to each other are combined with a casing while keeping the cathode substrate facing down. Then, the anode substrate and casing are sealedly connected to each other.

  • Patent number: 5637023
Abstract: A field emission element features an emitter which has rectangular projections at its distal end capable of readily controlling the interval between electrodes in increments as small as sub-microns, in order to reduce the voltage at which the device starts field emission at the required level and to improve emission uniformity. An emitter (2,20), a collector (3,21) and a gate (5,22) are arranged on a substrate (1), which is formed with a recess (4) in proximity to the electrodes (2,3,20,21) other than the gate (5). The gate (5) is provided in the recess (4).

  • Patent number: 5497047
Abstract: A fluorescent display device capable of realizing mounting of a semiconductor element on a substrate while ensuring an increase in moisture resistance, a decrease in contact resistance at connection between the semiconductor element and a wiring conductor and increased reliability. A semiconductor element is mounted on an extension of a substrate and received in a mounting chamber formed by cooperation of a sealing material, a face plate and the substrate. The semiconductor element is downwardly pressed against the substrate by the face plate, resulting in the semiconductor element being electrically connected to a wiring conductor. The sealing material is made of an inorganic material such as indium-tin alloy or the like which has an operating temperature lower than a sealing medium.

  • Patent number: 5256936
Abstract: An image display device capable of minutely setting the interval between an emitter (6) and a gate (5) with high accuracy and of being driven at a significantly reduced drive voltage with good emission uniformity. Each emitter (6) is provided in a recess in a substrate (2), so that the interval between the emitter (6) and a gate (5) is determined depending upon the thickness of the emitter (6). Thus, the interval can be readily controlled by adjusting or varying the period of time during which the film for the emitter (6) is formed, resulting in a micro-interval of the order of sub-microns between the two components being possible with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5189341
Abstract: An electron emitting element capable of preventing pollution of the emitter due to absorption of gas thereon, to thereby ensure stable emission of electrons over a long period of time even in a low vacuum atmosphere. The electron emitting element is constructed so as to permit a part of electrons emitted from one of emitters to impinge on the other of the emitters being ready for emission to clean it.
