  • Patent number: 4491815
Abstract: A rotary actuator for driving a fluid control valve comprises a yoke which forms a closed magnetic path an excitation coil which produces a magnetic flux in the yoke, a permanent magnet which is rotatably arranged in a through hole or in a slit formed in the yoke, and a restoring spring which produces a force acting against a rotational torque generated in the magnet by a main magnetic flux which flows through the yoke and the permanent magnet when the excitation coils is energized. Shielding portions are formed on both sides of the ends of the yoke, which ends oppose the permanent magnet, so as to substantially shield the permanent magnet together with the ends of the yoke, whereby a magnetic reluctance of a path of the magnetic flux remains substantially constant irrespective of the rotating position of the permanent magnet with respect to the yoke when the excitation coil is de-energized.

  • Patent number: 4489695
Abstract: The number of working cylinders of the internal combustion engine is controlled so that the load of the internal combustion engine is relatively increased thereby to keep the combustion effect within an expected range. By controlling the number of working cylinders of the internal combustion engine also to other than integral numbers, the torque control of large freedom is continuously effected. Thus the torque characteristic is smoothed, thus improving the fuel efficiency and driveability at the same time.

  • Patent number: 4450825
Abstract: In an EGR control system for a diesel engine, the EGR amount is controlled by controlling the pressure in a diaphragm chamber of an EGR valve using the output signal of a computer, responsive to signals from a plurality of engine running condition sensors, for calculating the EGR amount with corrections according to the engine running conditions and the excess air rate. In some cases, the EGR is carried out only when the rotational speed of the engine is higher than a predetermined rotational speed. Also, in some cases, the EGR is carried out when an occurrence of idling is detected, even if the rotational speed of the engine is lower than the predetermined rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 4449367
Abstract: In a knocking control device comprising an exhaust bypass valve driven by the diaphragm actuator and a knocking control circuit, the amount of bypassed exhaust gas is adjusted in accordance with the knocking, the upper and lower limits regarding the opening degree of the control valve are determined in accordance with the opening degree of the throttle valve and the signal determining the upper limit concerning the opening degree of the control valve is prior to the signal determining the opening degree of the control valve due to the knocking signal when the opening degree of the throttle valve is changed. Thus, an increase in the output of the engine and an improvement in specific fuel consumption is achieved and the durability of the engine is improved due to the elimination of knocking and a decrease in the temperature of the exhaust gas.
