  • Publication number: 20070140484
Abstract: The invention provides an enciphering apparatus and method, a deciphering apparatus and method and an information processing apparatus and method by which illegal copying can be prevented with certainty. Data enciphered by a 1394 interface of a DVD player is transmitted to a personal computer and a magneto-optical disk apparatus through a 1394 bus. In the magneto-optical disk apparatus with which a change to a function is open to a user, the received data is deciphered by a 1394 interface. In contrast, in the personal computer with which a change to a function is open to a user, the enciphered data is deciphered using a time variable key by a 1394 interface, and a result of the decipherment is further deciphered using a session key by an application section.

  • Patent number: 7221853
Abstract: The CGMS unacceptable recorder accepts transmission frames only when the copyright protection information in a transmission header transmitted to the IEEE1394 serial bus indicates copy free. The CGMS acceptable recorder accepts transmission frames when the copyright protection information in the transmission header indicates copy free. When the copyright protection information in the transmission header indicates compliance with the copyright information contained in the content of the transmission frame, the copyright information in the content is fetched based on the signal format type information of the transmission header. A copy management information changeable apparatus such as a computer cannot accept data other than copy free signals from the digital interface.

  • Patent number: 7190694
Abstract: A communications system connected via a bus capable of transmitting multiplexed packets of control signals and AV signals while providing an environment, which is the same as an environment where connections are made using analog signal lines. A register with a fixed address is taken to be a virtual plug for each of a plurality of equipment. When the plug enable for the input plug is set to 1, an isochronous communication packet for the AV signal on the channel set by the channel number is received. When the plug enable for the output plug is set to one and the isochronous communication packet for the information signal is sent on the channel, then the channel number is set in the channel number field at a transmission speed designated by the DR (Data Rate) field at the bandwidth presented in the bandwidth field.

  • Patent number: 7177427
Abstract: A method and system for transferring information using an encryption mode indicator (EMI). The present invention provides several secure information communication modes in which data (e.g., representing an audio/visual work) can be transmitted from a source device to a sink device (receiving station) in a number of secure modes. In one secure mode, EMI mode A, the information of the transmission is not allowed to be copied as a whole work; this is the highest level of copy protection. In second secure mode, EMI mode B, the information of the transmission is allowed to be copied once and once only by the sink device. In a third transmission mode, no encryption is used and free copying is available.

  • Publication number: 20060240770
Abstract: Transmission of contents from a transmitting apparatus to a plurality of receiving apparatuses is performed, while putting restrictions on a communication area and the number of receiving apparatuses in conformity with a definition of DTCP. In a case of a need to distribute literary works such as movies and the music within a single home network, while preventing the transmission of the literary works to other home networks, a degree of freedom in communication is raised in a case where a communication delay time is short so that a high possibility exists that the communication delay time falls within a specific range. Conversely, in a case where the communication delay time is long so that a low possibility exists that the communication delay time falls within the specific range, the degree of freedom in communication is lowered.

  • Publication number: 20060209689
Abstract: An information processing apparatus allowing proper communication with a communication partner in accordance with a communication time of the communication partner. A reception control unit receives a random challenge (RC) from a transmission terminal and supplies it to a generation unit. The reception control unit transmits an RC reception message indicating an RC reception to a transmission side. The generation unit executes a Hash process relative to RC and supplies resultant authentication data to a generation unit. A transmission control unit controls the generation unit at a timing before a response request command from the transmission side is received, to make the generation unit generate a response message containing authentication data corresponding to the response request command, and when the response request command is received, transmits the response message to a transmission destination terminal. The apparatus is applicable to a content providing system.

  • Patent number: 7103700
Abstract: An isochronous data pipe provides a bi-directional path for data between an application and a bus structure. The isochronous data pipe includes the ability to send, receive and perform manipulations on any isochronous stream of data, including data on any number of isochronous channels. The isochronous data pipe is a programmable sequencer that operates on the stream of isochronous data as it passes through the isochronous data pipe. The isochronous data pipe is programmed by an application to perform specific operations on the stream of data before the data is either transmitted across the bus structure or sent to the application, thereby pre-processing and manipulating the data before it is delivered to its destination. The operations are performed on both the packet header and the data field of the data packet. The isochronous data pipe can be stopped and started on the occurrence of specific events.

  • Patent number: 7065214
Abstract: An information processing apparatus and an information processing method capable of preventing information from being copied illegally. where a hash function and a service key are stored in advance in an EEPROM of a DVD player serving as a source. In an BEPROM of a personal computer (PC) serving as a sink, on the other hand, its ID and a license key are stored beforehand. The DVD player requests the PC to transmit the ID. The DVD player then applies the hash function to data resulting from concatenation of the lID with the service key to generate a license key (=hash (ID ?service_key)). Subsequently, the DVD player generates a source side common session key and encrypts the session key by using the generated license key. Then, the DVD player transmits the encrypted source side common session key to the PC.

  • Publication number: 20060063511
Abstract: There is provided a configuration enabling prevention in advance of leakage and outflow of secret information in the local network, such as private data and content whose copyright and use right is restricted. A plurality of identification information of a communication destination device are acquired at different data processing levels. Identification information acquired by data processing at a level of a physical layer or a data link layer of the OSI reference model and identification information acquired by data processing at a layer level of a network layer or higher are received and these identification information are matched. In addition, at least one of identification information receives generated data generated by an encryption process or a hash value generation process based on secret information shared with the communication source device.

  • Patent number: 6993022
Abstract: Within the routing method and apparatus of the present invention, a router is coupled to multiple buses, each of the buses having one or more nodes. A node on a first bus structure sending a communication to a node on a second bus structure includes an address value within the communication addressed into the address space of the router. When the packet is received, the router then preferably uses a routing value within the address value to determine the bus number and node number of the target node. The router then uses this bus number and node number to remap the address value to the target node. This remapped address value is then included within the packet and transmitted on the appropriate bus structure directed to the appropriate node. In an alternate embodiment, the address value in a packet received by the router includes a table index value and a direct offset value.

  • Publication number: 20060013223
Abstract: In order to predictively time stamp isochronous data packets transmitted over an IEEE 1394-1995 serial bus network, an application, which is to send a stream of isochronous data packets to a receiving node, first transmits a number of dummy frames each consisting of a number of packets. Preferably, these isochronous data packets make up frames of video data. From these dummy packets, the application obtains the time stamp values within the common isochronous packet (CIP) header of each packet. Using these obtained time stamp values, the application calculates a presentation time value for each data frame to be transmitted. The obtained time stamp value from a transmitted video frame is used to calculate the presentation time for a video frame which is a number of frames ahead within the transmit queue.

  • Patent number: 6982990
Abstract: A CPU controls the storage of isochronous packets into a main memory. The CPU inserts a nullpacket, which will be ignored by a reception apparatus, into isochronous packets so that the isochronous packets have the same size. A 1394 DMA controller controls the transmission of stored isochronous packets, which have the same size due to the inserted nullpacket, over a 1394 bus.
