  • Patent number: 6243362
Abstract: A bus management node 11 has a register for channels in use REG1 and a bus capacity register REG2. Before starting the synchronous communication, each node 12 transmits a read-out command to the register for channels in use REG1 and the register for channels in use REG1 in order to read out their contents for ascertaining the number of the un-used channel and the residual capacity. If there is any un-used channel and any residual bus capacity, the node 12 transmits write commands to these registers REG1 and REG2 so that the number of the channel to be in use and the capacity of the bus to be in use will be stored in the register for channels in use REG1 and the bus capacity register REG2. This enables bus management to be achieved easily in a system performing synchronous communication between plural nodes connected to the bus.

  • Patent number: 6233637
Abstract: An isochronous data pipe provides a bi-directional path for data between an application and a bus structure. The isochronous data pipe includes the ability to send, receive and perform manipulations on any isochronous stream of data, including data on any number of isochronous channels. The isochronous data pipe is a programmable sequencer that operates on the stream of isochronous data as it passes through the isochronous data pipe. The isochronous data pipe is programmed by an application to perform specific operations on the stream of data before the data is either transmitted across the bus structure or sent to the application, thereby pre-processing and manipulating the data before it is delivered to its destination. The operations are performed on both the packet header and the data field of the data packet. The isochronous data pipe can be stopped and started on the occurrence of specific events.

  • Patent number: 6223285
Abstract: A method and system for transferring information using an encryption mode indicator (EMI). The present invention provides several secure information communication modes in which data (e.g., representing an audio/visual work) can be transmitted from a source device to a sink device (receiving station) in a number of secure modes. In one secure mode, EMI mode A, the information of the transmission is not allowed to be copied as a whole work; this is the highest level of copy protection. In second secure mode, EMI mode B, the information of the transmission is allowed to be copied once and once only by the sink device. In a third transmission mode, no encryption is used and free copying is available. Depending on which secure mode is selected between mode A and mode B, a different encryption process is used by the source device to encrypt the transmission.

  • Patent number: 6148241
Abstract: A method and system for providing a user interface for a networked target device using panel subunit descriptor information maintained by the target device. The present invention utilizes a panel subunit to allow any compliant device (e.g., a target device) to describe the appearance of its physical (and logical) controls and displays to another device (e.g., an intelligent controller) and allows the controller to trigger actions on the target as if a user had physically manipulated the controls on the target device directly. The panel subunit uses objects defined with several standard types of controls and displays (e.g., push buttons, sliders, dials, LCD screens, etc.) that are commonly found on consumer electronic devices. The control types have well defined behaviors (e.g., buttons are pushed, dials are moved, values are input, etc.). In addition, the panel subunit defines a set of commands which are to be applied to any of these controls when selected by the user.

  • Patent number: 6141767
Abstract: A graphical user interface is used to display contents of a configuration memory and includes a hierarchical window illustrating directories and entries within the configuration memory including the relationships between the directories and entries and a data window for displaying data stored within the configuration memory and signalling errors corresponding to the data. The errors are determined by processing the data being displayed to determine a reference value for each entry within the data and to determine if any offset value, pointer value and count value included within any entry references a memory location outside of a boundary of the memory. The reference value specifies a number of times each entry is referenced. Errors are signalled within the data window by displaying entries corresponding to errors in a first color and entries which do not include errors in a second color. The system further includes a bus structure node circuit for coupling the system to other devices over a bus structure.

  • Patent number: 5978807
Abstract: A computer system or other internet access device is programmed to automatically access specified web pages periodically and download the information from the web page to the computer system. Through a user interface, a user programs the computer system by entering an internet address of the web page and an access interval. The access interval is the interval at which versions of the web page will be downloaded; e.g. hourly, daily or weekly. On that periodic basis the computer system or other internet access device then automatically accesses the specified web page and downloads the available information. This information is stored within a memory device associated with the computer system. The user can then access the downloaded information and view the web page without connecting to the internet to determine if there is anything of interest to the user on the web page.

  • Patent number: 5944827
Abstract: A system including a plurality of electronic devices connected together through a bus, which can realize reduction in power consumption while ensuring communications. When a bias voltage on an external bus is detected by a bias detecting circuit and a comparator, a bias voltage is output from a bias output terminal to the external bus enabling it. When a driver and receiver receive a PHY-SLEEP command through the external bus, the bias voltage kept output from the bias output terminal to the external bus is turned disabling it.

  • Patent number: 5933430
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to reduce the number of terminals in an equipment for inputting or outputting a realtime digital signal such as a digital audio signal and a music/musical instrument signal. A first converter and a second converter are provided with a function of mutual conversion between a signal format of a digital audio interface and a signal format of IEEE-1394. For example, it is possible to transmit a signal of a digital audio interface outputted from a first CD player to the first converter, to convert the signal here into a packet of IEEE-1394 isochronous transmission format and transmit it to the second converter, and to return the packet to the digital audio interface and record a digital audio signal in an MD recorder. When a converter having a function of mutual conversion between the MIDI signal format and the IEEE-1394 signal format is provided, it is also possible to perform bidirectional data communication among a plurality of MIDI musical instruments.

  • Patent number: 5907657
Abstract: A method of recording and reproducing video signals which include video information and copy protection information for restricting the number of times the video information may be copied. Original video information is recorded onto a recording medium with updated copy protection information that indicates that the video information has been copied and is also transmitted with the original copy protection information so that more than one copy of the video information may be generated from the original. The transmitted video information is outputted and/or recorded onto a recording medium with the updated copy protection information.

  • Patent number: 5903702
Abstract: An apparatus and method for editing isochronous communication data used for communication between various electronic devices. An editing procedure with high accuracy can be conducted without reading the system data of isochronous communication in a system having co-existing isochronous and asynchronous modes of communication for data transmission between the electronic devices. The editing procedure can also be conducted with high accuracy in a system in which an edit controlling device cannot recognize the frame boundary in the information signals. Furthermore, even if there are various time delays associated with the instruction reception and the instruction execution by an electronic device, the editing procedure can be conducted with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5841937
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for recording and reproducing digital image data. In a reproducing apparatus, two tracks of digital image data are simultaneously reproduced in a high definition mode of operation, while in a standard definition mode of operation only a single track of data is reproduced at a given time. In the high definition mode of operation, the data reproduced from the two tracks simultaneously are time-division multiplexed and supplied in multiplexed form to a digital interface for transmission to another apparatus, such as a recording apparatus for dubbing. In a recording apparatus, operating in a high definition mode digital image data is recorded simultaneously in two tracks on tape. In one embodiment, the data to be recorded is also multiplexed time-divisionally and supplied to a digital interface for transmission, but in a standard definition mode, the data is not multiplexed prior to transmission.
