Patent number: 7280903Abstract: In an adaptive cruise control (ACC) region where vehicle speed V is greater than a predetermined third vehicle speed #V3, a decrease amount of a target inter-vehicle distance per predetermined unit vehicle speed decrease amount in a state where the vehicle speed V is less than a predetermined fourth vehicle speed #V4 is smaller than a decrease amount of the target inter-vehicle distance per predetermined unit vehicle speed decrease amount in a state where the vehicle speed V is greater than the predetermined fourth vehicle speed #V4. The decrease amount of the target inter-vehicle distance per predetermined unit vehicle speed decrease amount in a state where the vehicle speed V is less than a predetermined first vehicle speed #V1 is larger than a decrease amount of the target inter-vehicle distance per predetermined unit vehicle speed decrease amount in a state where the vehicle speed V is greater than the predetermined first vehicle speed #V1 and less than a predetermined second vehicle speed #V2.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2005Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toshiaki Arai, Tadayoshi Okada, Hisaya Izawa, Makoto Matsumoto

Patent number: 7212906Abstract: A follow running control system includes a running control section for performing running control of the present vehicle based on data of the preceding vehicle and a signal from a device for detecting a driving operation performed by a driver of the present vehicle. If a driving operation by the driver for requesting starting of the present vehicle is detected while the present vehicle is stopped in a stop control state, the running control section changes a control state of the present vehicle, with respect to a follow running control device for controlling follow running of the present vehicle based on a target speed of the vehicle, from the stop control state to a follow control state for following the preceding vehicle, regardless of starting of preceding vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2004Date of Patent: May 1, 2007Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toshiaki Arai, Tadayoshi Okada, Hisaya Izawa, Makoto Matsumoto

Patent number: 6590521Abstract: An object recognition system including a radar, an image sensor and a controller is provided. The radar determines the position of an object, and the image sensor captures an image of the object. The controller sets a processing area within the image captured by the image sensor based on the position of the object determined by the radar and a predetermined size for the object to be recognized. The controller extracts horizontal and vertical edges from the processing area, and preferably judges whether each of the extracted edges belongs to the object based on characteristics of the object to be recognized. The controller then recognizes the outline of the object based on the edges judged to belong to the object. The object can be recognized by determining upper, lower, left and right ends of the object. On the other hand, the controller recognizes lane lines defining the lane in which the vehicle mounting the system of the invention is running.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2000Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: Honda Giken Gokyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masakazu Saka, Shigeru Inoue, Hisaya Izawa, Tomoyoshi Aoki
