  • Publication number: 20010013845
Abstract: A method for driving an plasma display panel according to the present invention uses an erase addressing for matrix display by an AC-driven plasma display panel. The method includes the steps of grouping the electrode pairs, which define rows, into a first group and a second group, and, as an operation to charge all the cells prior to the addressing, applying, to electrode pairs belonging to either one of the first and second groups, a first voltage for generating a discharge only in cells in a non-charged state and then a second voltage for generating a discharge in all the cells, and applying the second voltage to electrode pairs belonging to the other group.

  • Patent number: 6211614
Abstract: An AC type plasma display panel having a first and a second electrode, each extending along a line direction and aligning along a row direction across a discharge gap therebetween, where is formed a display discharge cell. A third electrode extends along the row direction and intersects the first and second electrodes. Thus a display matrix is formed with the lines and the rows, and an address discharge cell is formed with the second electrode and the third electrode. Each of the first and second electrodes comprises a laminate of an electrically conductive transparent film stripe having a first side distant from the discharge gap and a second side near to the discharge gap with a metal film stripe thereon. A width of the metal film stripe is narrower than a width of the transparent film stripe. The metal film stripe has a third side distant from the discharge gap, and a fourth side near to the discharge gap.

  • Patent number: 6097358
Abstract: A method for driving an AC-driven PDP to produce gradation display by dividing a field into at least three sub-fields in time sequence, each of the sub-fields having a weighted luminance and being provided with an address period for selecting a cell to emit light for display and a sustain period for sustaining a light-emitting state. The method includes the steps of grouping the sub-fields into at least two sub-field groups, carrying out a charge forming operation, as preparation for addressing, directly before each of the sub-field groups so as to form wall charge necessary for sustaining the light-emitting state in all cells on an entire screen, and carrying out an erase addressing, in the address period of each of the sub-fields, for erasing the wall charge in a cell which need not emit light.

  • Patent number: 6054970
Abstract: A method for driving an AC-driven plasma display panel (PDP) having a three-electrode surface discharge structure constructed to have a first electrode and a second electrode both extending in a direction of a row line of elements arranged in matrix and a third electrode extending in a direction of a column line of the elements, the method including the step of applying, upon displaying images in time sequence, erase voltage pulses of different polarities for erasure to the second electrode and the third electrode so that an effective voltage exceeds an opposition discharge start voltage only in the case where a wall voltage of a predetermined value or higher is superposed on the voltage pulses, during a period from the end of sustaining the light-emission discharge for display for an image to the beginning of addressing for a next image.

  • Patent number: 6020687
Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel includes carrying out an erase address operation when a display on the screen is renewed. The erase address operation includes the steps of carrying out an address preparation operation for producing the wall charge in all the discharge cells through a first step of generating a discharge only in a discharge cell in an ON-state and a second step of generating a discharge only in a discharge cell in an OFF-state, and carrying out an operation for selectively erasing the wall charge in a discharge cell other than a discharge cell corresponding to data of the image to be displayed.
