Abstract: A heat-insulating resilient supporting and sealing member inserted in a monolithic type catalytic exhaust gas purifier of generally elliptical cross section between an inner wall of a casing and the outer periphery of a monolithic catalyst housed in the casing such that a thicker portion of the supporting and sealing member is disposed at a smallest cross dimension region of the casing, and a thinner portion of the supporting and sealing member is disposed at a largest cross dimension region of the casing, so that the bulk density of the member at the operating temperature of the catalytic purifier is approximately constant around the periphery of the member.

Abstract: An exhaust support system for a midship engine rear wheel drive-type vehicle having a transversely mounted engine. The exhaust support system has first and second cylindrical exhaust devices which are provided in horizontally separate positions alongside each other. The first exhaust device is connected with an exhaust manifold of the engine by a first exhaust pipe. The second exhaust device is connected with the first exhaust device by a second exhaust pipe. The first exhaust pipe is mounted onto the second exhaust device by a bracket which extends in a perpendicular direction to the longitudinal axes of the first and second exhaust devices. The bracket is made of sheet of a metal, and has a thick thickness.

Abstract: An exhaust support system for a midship engine rear wheel drive-type vehicle having a transversely mounted engine. The exhaust support system has a cylindrical exhaust device which is provided in a lateral direction across the vehicle. The exhaust device is mounted to a vehicle body by a mounting device which has a bracket secured to the vehicle body, a support rod fixed to the exhaust device at one end thereof, and a resilient member contained within the bracket for absorbing vibrations of the exhaust system.

Abstract: A catalytic converter in which at least two catalyst units are arranged within a casing in the direction of exhaust gas flow, with a space between the units transverse to the exhaust gas flow direction. A secondary air supply pipe is inserted into this space in such a manner that a base portion of the inserted pipe is sealingly secured to the casing, while the downstream end of the inserted pipe is supported by a resilient strap or leaf member, one end of which is secured to the downstream end of the inserted pipe and the other end is secured to the casing.
