  • Patent number: 4389014
Abstract: In the event of a malfunction of the unit, the damper plate may be moved to and locked in the open position, to permit the furnace to operate. With the plate locked, the motor would normally run continuously, even when the furnace was not operating. This is because the closed position of the plate, necessary to turn off the motor, cannot be reached. A slip clutch, located between the motor shaft and the plate, has parts which slip relative to each other when the motor is running but the plate is locked. The contours and biasing of the parts causes one part to move a limited distance, in a direction opposite to normal. The motor is stopped in response to this oppositely directed movement.A bent portion of the plate positioning shaft is freely received in a recess elongated in and laterally spaced from the motor shaft for self-alignment and to permit the oppositely directed movement necessary to stop the motor.

  • Patent number: 4335852
Abstract: A device to control the flow of fluid uses a cam and ratchet wheel. A valve is operated by the cam portion of the wheel, which bears against the valve stem causing it to open. Fluid flow causes a pawl to drive the ratchet portion of the wheel, rotating the wheel until the valve stem bears against a low point in the cam, permitting the valve to close. A part of the ratchet portion does not contain ratchet teeth, in which area the pawl cannot drive the wheel. In this area, the cam has an increasing radius from a radius corresponding to a closed valve, to a radius corresponding to a fully open valve. This permits manual control of fluid flow without disengagement of the device.

  • Patent number: 4216982
Abstract: A speed slip-on type of hose coupler structured to enable ready coupling and uncoupling of the male and female coupler bodies by way of an interlocking means for the coupler bodies and a releasing device for the interlocking means. The interlocking means comprises a unitary or one-piece locking element having locking portions connected by a resiliently arcuately expansible portion.

  • Patent number: 4192464
Abstract: A hand-pressurized compressed air sprayer includes a handle comprising a grasping portion remote from the sprayer tank and adapted to be held by the user and a connecting portion connecting the grasping portion to the tank. The handle is movable between a first generally vertical position wherein the grasping portion extends over the tank cap so as to enable carrying of the sprayer by the handle, a second stable position wherein the grasping portion is disposed to one side of the first position of the grasping portion and laterally beyond the cap so as to secure the tank against rotation without impeding removal of the cap therefrom for filling purposes, and a third stable position wherein the grasping portion is disposed to the other side of the first position of the grasping portion and laterally beyond the operative path of the pump handle so as to stabilize the tank against vertical lifting or tipping without impeding movement of the pump handle and while providing a support for the user.

  • Patent number: 4137939
Abstract: A portable hose reel cart comprises a cart frame, a rotatable reel, and wheels secured to said frame. The frame comprises a handle portion, a support portion, and a pair of angled intermediate portions disposed on opposite sides of the frame and connecting the handle and support portions. The reel is secured to the frame and adapted for rotation about an axis intersecting the intermediate portions, and the wheels are adapted to form with the support a stable base for the frame. The resultant cart is movable to a first stable and generally upright reeling position wherein the frame is supported by the wheels and support portion, a second stable and generally horizontal unreeling position wherein the frame is supported by both the handle and support portions with the reel being free for rotation, and a third unstable transporting position wherein the frame is supported essentially by only the wheels of the cart.

  • Patent number: 4056582
Abstract: A versatile by-pass humidifier assembly utilizes the flow of air therethrough as the driving force to rotate a fluid carrier subassembly, but may also be adapted for use with an electric motor as the driving force. The water carrier subassembly has a unique "drop-in" design which permits easy removal and replacement, all without the use of tools or fasteners. Similarly, the fluid reservoir is removable for maintenance and cleaning and the cover is removable for access to the humidifier assembly interior, both being removable and replaceable without the use of tools or fasteners of any sort.
