    Abstract: An interframe wavelet video coding (IWVC) method by which an average temporal distance (ATD) is minimized is provided. The IWVC method comprises receiving a group-of-frames and decomposing the group-of-frames into difference frames and first average frames between the frames in a first forward temporal direction and a backward temporal direction, wavelet-decomposing the first difference frames and the first average frames, and quantizing coefficients resulting from the wavelet-decomposition to generate a bitstream. The IWVC method provides improved video coding performance.

Upon activation of the voice recording selection part when the system is turned off, a power supply part is activated to supply powers only to sound recording system components, for example, the microphone, the storage unit, the signal processing part, and the recording control part. The MPEG audio encoding method comprises performing modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) on an input audio signal in a time domain; with the MDCT performed MDCT coefficients as an input, performing psychoacoustic model; and by using the result of performing the psychoacoustic model, performing quantization, and packing a bitstream. According to the method, complexity of computation can be reduced and waste of bits can be prevented.

    Abstract: An audio compression method using wavelet packet transform (WPT) in MPEG1 layer 3 (hereinafter referred to as “MP3”) and a system thereof are provided. The method comprises calculating perceptual energy by analyzing audio samples which are input based on a psychoacoustic model; according to comparison of the level of the calculated perceptual energy with a threshold, selectively determining a modified DCT (MDCT) processing window and a wavelet packet transform (WPT) processing window; by processing audio samples corresponding to the scopes of the determined windows in the MDCT and WPT, converting the audio samples into data on frequency domains; and quantizing the processed data on the frequency domains according to the number of assigned bits.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for effectively encoding an audio signal into a Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-1 layer III audio signal of a low-speed bitrate. In the audio encoding method, harmonic components are extracted using fast Fourier transformation (FFT) result information that is obtained by applying psycho-acoustic model 2 to received pulse code modulation (PCM) audio data. Then, the extracted harmonic components are removed from the received PCM audio data. Thereafter, the PCM audio data from which the extracted harmonic components are removed is subjected to a modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) and quantization. Accordingly, efficient encoding can be achieved even using a small number of allocated bits.

According to the present invention, a remote control function can always be stably performed, and can cope flexibly with variations in hardware and software environments.

    Abstract: A laptop computer with an alarm function using an LCD on/off switch includes: a microcomputer both for controlling the LCD back-light section on/off operation in response to the on/off state of an LCD on/off switch and for generating an interrupt signal; an alarm processor for determining whether or not the interrupt signal is a burglar alarm signal and outputs an alarm in case of a robbery; and a password determining section for comparing a password entered by a user with a previously set password and interrupting the generation of an alarm only when both passwords are identical. A burglar alarm is sounded when an interrupt occurs so when to indicate a robbery as the LCD on/off switch is turned on against a user's will during the operation of the computer. Also, it can interrupt the alarm by a user inputting a correct password during the generation of the alarm.
