  • Publication number: 20160108511
Abstract: A method for spray-coating substrate surfaces, in which (a) a thermoplastically processable material is molten and thus liquefied in an extruder in a first step; (b) the molten material is pressurized by means of a carrier gas or vapor; (c) a mixture formed from said molten material and said carrier gas or vapor is pressed through one or more nozzles, optionally supplying a spraying gas having a temperature at least as high as the melt temperature to the spraying jet in the region of the discharge opening of the nozzle; and (d) the obtained spray jet with the molten material is directed onto the substrate surface, wherein the material impinges in drops in a flowable state onto the substrate surface, forms a continuous coating on the substrate surface, and subsequently solidifies.

  • Patent number: 5262111
Abstract: A process for the continuous production of a rubber compound in a twin-screw extruder is disclosed that improves the dispersion of carbon black in the extrudate while reducing the specific energy requirements of the extrudate. Rubber is fed into the extruder together with a processing aid and masticated up to a temperature of 120.degree. C. to 180.degree. C. Subsequently, a first part of carbon black representing preferably 40% to 80% of the whole quantity of carbon black is fed into the heated extrudate. Afterwards, plasticizing oil is added to the extrudate before the second remaining carbon black part is fed and incorporated into the extrudate at a temperature of 120.degree. C. to 180.degree. C. The whole compound is then cooled, a crosslinking agent is added, and the compound is homogenized and extruded.

  • Patent number: 5125824
Abstract: A method of degassing a molten mass of thermoplastic, plastics material containing residual monomers and a twin-screw extruder capable of effecting such degassing. A molten mass of plastics material and a stripping agent are intermixed at a pressure which prevents the stripping agent from changing from liquid to gas at the temperature of the molten mass. The pressure necessary is achieved by the use of a pressure restrictor, which is yoke-shaped and is connected to the extruder housing in a force-fitting manner using centering means but which effectively blocks the processing chamber of the extruder downstream thereof to the molten material with the exception of a maximum of two throughbores for such material.
