  • Patent number: 8734279
Abstract: A tensioner comprising a sleeve, an adjuster cooperatively engaged with an inner surface of the sleeve, a pivot arm pivotally engaged with the sleeve, a pulley journalled to the pivot arm, a torsion spring engaged with the sleeve for urging the pivot arm, an elastomeric damping ring connected to the arm and in compressive frictional contact between the sleeve and the arm whereby a tangential friction force damps a pivot arm movement, the elastomeric damping ring exerting a radial force on the sleeve, and a retaining member connected to the adjuster and cooperatively engaged with the sleeve whereby the adjuster and sleeve are kept in a predetermined relation.

  • Publication number: 20080176687
Abstract: A tensioner comprising a base (10) having a shaft (70) fixedly connected thereto, the shaft having a bore (72), a pivot arm (40) pivotally engaged with the shaft and having a pivot axis (A-A), a pulley (50) journalled to the pivot arm and having a center of rotation about axis (C-C), a spring (30) engaged between the base and the pivot arm, a retaining member (90) fixedly engaged with the shaft opposite the base, the pivot arm and spring disposed between the retaining member and the base, a first hole (12) in the base and a second hole (91) in the retaining member aligned with an axis (B-B), the first hole and second hole and bore cooperatively engaging a fastener (110), the axis (B-B) offset a predetermined distance from axis (A-A), the axis (C-C) offset a predetermined distance from axis (A-A), a tool receiver (92) in the retaining member, and the base, shaft and retaining member fixedly connected together such that there may be no relative movement between the base, shaft and retaining member during instal

  • Publication number: 20080171622
Abstract: A tensioner comprising a base (20), a pivot arm (30), a pulley (90) journalled to the pivot arm, a torsion spring (10) engaged between the base and the pivot arm, the torsion spring biasing the pivot arm, the torsion spring comprising a cross-sectional form having a major axis (Z-Z) and a minor axis (X-X), the major axis having a length (h) greater than a minor axis length (b), the torsion spring comprising planar portions (15,16) which are substantially parallel with the major axis, and the major axis oriented in a direction that extends substantially radially and normally from a torsion spring winding axis (Y-Y).
