  • Patent number: 8525110
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention pertain to an apparatus that provides four simultaneous ion and neutral measurements as a function of altitude with variable sensitivity for neutral atmospheric species. The variable sensitivity makes it possible to extend the measurements over the altitude range of 100 to more than 700 kilometers. The four instruments included in the apparatus are a neutral wind-temperature spectrometer, an ion-drift ion-temperature spectrometer, a neutral mass spectrometer, and an ion mass spectrometer. The neutral wind-temperature spectrometer and ion-drift ion-temperature spectrometer are configured to separate O and N2 and O+ from H+ while the neutral mass spectrometer and the ion mass spectrometer are configured to separate mass with a resolution of one in sixty-four to enable metallic ion identification in the lower thermosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 2011
Date of Patent: September 3, 2013
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics Space Administration
Inventors: Federico Herrero, Hollis H. Jones, Theodore T. Finne, Andrew Nicholas

  • Publication number: 20130054195
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and apparatus employing an ultralow power, pulsed data collection apparatus having multiple detector channels, such as 64 channels. The system and apparatus has a small volume and power requirements, enabling launch and deployment from commercial spacecraft, such as pursuit to the CubeSat and other nanosatellite protocols.

  • Patent number: 5960614
Abstract: A system consisting of a versatile hitch attached to a tractor which positions a ground-based implement, such as a mower, in front or to either side of the tractor. The hitch cushions or dampens movement using a torsional component over rough ground by the tractor allowing the implement to traverse a near parallel ground direction. The mower design mows either normally over open ground or in restricted locations, such as around fences supported by posts.

  • Patent number: 5060463
Abstract: A hitching apparatus is mounted on the forward end of a prime mover to permit the interchangeable connection of various implements. A pair of support members extend from the forward end of the tractor to support a rotatable cross member therebetween. A pair of slotted brackets are operably mounted on the ends of the cross member and connected to the support members via a pair of operable cylinders. Pins through the cross member correspond with the slots in the brackets to permit the cross member to rotate a predetermined amount with respect to the brackets. A shaft extending from the cross member is connected to an implement to raise and lower the implement upon rotation of the cross member.
