  • Patent number: 6428629
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, an apparatus and method for application of a chemical process on a component surface is provided. In an embodiment for an apparatus for preparing a component surface for application of a chemical process, the apparatus includes a base, an o-ring retainer, an o-ring, a boot, and a retention ring. The component is mounted on the base. The o-ring is positioned on the o-ring retainer and the o-ring retainer is inserted through an aperture in the component and mated with the base. The assembled component, base, o-ring retainer, and o-ring are positioned within the boot. The retention ring is positioned around the boot.

  • Patent number: 6044976
Abstract: A container holds an item. The item has an upper surface with a contacting portion and a non-contacting portion. The container comprises a base and a cover. The base has a lower retaining portion with a depth. The item is removably engagable into the lower retaining portion of the base. The cover has an upper retaining portion with a contacting portion and a non-contacting portion. The cover is removably engagable with the base so that the upper retaining portion of the cover is aligned with the lower retaining portion of the base. When the contacting portion of the upper retaining portion of the cover is engaged with the contacting portion of the item, the non-contacting portion of the upper retaining portion is separated from the non-contacting portion of the item by a gap.

  • Patent number: 5995573
Abstract: A container for storing hazardous waste materials, particularly radioactive waste materials, includes a shell having a closed end and an open end, and a lid for closing the open end. A core assembly arranged in the shell divides the interior of the shell into a plurality of elongated compartments for receiving the waste materials. The shell may be formed from a plurality of identical segments welded to one another, each segment including plural compartments. Preferably, the shell, lid and core assembly are formed from a copper beryllium alloy. The containers may be positioned in a pair of parallel side-by-side rows to produce a self-shielding storage arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5615794
Abstract: A container for storing hazardous waste material, particularly radioactive waste material, consists of a cylindrical body and lid of precipitation hardened C17510 beryllium-copper alloy, and a channel formed between the mated lid and body for receiving weld filler material of C17200 copper-beryllium alloy. The weld filler material has a precipitation hardening temperature lower than the aging kinetic temperature of the material of the body and lid, whereby the weld filler material is post weld heat treated for obtaining a weld having substantially the same physical, thermal, and electrical characteristics as the material of the body and lid. A mechanical seal assembly is located between an interior shoulder of the body and the bottom of the lid for providing a vacuum seal.

  • Patent number: 5324914
Abstract: A method for welding together members consisting of precipitation age hardened materials includes the steps of selecting a weld filler material that has substantially the same composition as the materials being joined, and an age hardening characteristic temperature age threshold below that of the aging kinetic temperature range of the materials being joined, whereby after welding the members together, the resulting weld and heat affected zone (HAZ) are heat treated at a temperature below that of the kinetic temperature range of the materials joined, for obtaining substantially the same mechanical characteristics for the weld and HAZ, as for the parent material of the members joined.
