    Abstract: Disclosed are methods for the modulation of secondary metabolite production by fungi through genetic manipulation of such fungi. Also disclosed are new commercial processes using ZBC proteins, or variants thereof, to significantly increase useful secondary metabolite production. Generally, the methods according to the invention comprise expressing in a fungus a ZBC protein or a variant thereof.
