Abstract: A disk array system includes storage devices, a storage device control unit, a connection unit being connected with the storage device control unit, channel control units, a shared memory, and a cache memory. Each channel control unit includes a first processor of converting file data, received through a local area network outside of the disk array system to which the channel control units belongs, into block data and requesting storage of the converted data in the plurality of storage devices and a second processor of transferring the block data to the storage devices through the connection unit and the storage device control unit in response to a request given from the first processor and is connected with the connection unit and the local area network.

The storage controlling device may send/receive data input/output requests to/from the external device, and may execute data input/output processes in response to the data input/output requests. The input/output processes are executed in response to the data input/output requests attached to priority level determining information in an order that is determined based on priority level determining information that is attached as attribute information of the data input/output requests received from the external device.

Abstract: There is provided a GUI capable of mitigating troublesomeness in work by a setter/operator for performing setting of a computer. In a picture data creation method for creating, by means of a computer, picture data necessary to display on a display unit a picture in which two or more items and input columns made to be correspondent with the individual items are provided, the input columns are provided for selecting setting values correspondent with the items from a plurality of setting value candidates which can be correspondent with the items and inputting the selected setting values, and the computer has a step of creating picture data necessary for causing the display unit to display a picture in which the mutually different setting value candidates are displayed as defaults in the individual input columns.

Abstract: A method of controlling a storage control apparatus connected to a host computer via communication unit, receiving a data I/O request transmitted from the host computer, and performing a data I/O process corresponding to the request, includes the following steps of: transmitting a message notifying a start of a process from the storage control apparatus to the host computer when the storage control apparatus executes a process which requires control of a data I/O request transmitted from the host computer, and executing the process by the storage control apparatus after receiving a reply message in response to the aforementioned message.

Abstract: The efficiency of document retrieval work is improved by retrieving suitable related words conforming to the user's intention. The document retrieval method for retrieving desired documents from a document database by using a key word includes: extracting related words relating to an input key word and terms of validity of the related words; retrieving documents by using the extracted related words as retrieval words; and selecting documents that satisfy the extracted terms of validity from among the retrieved documents.
