  • Balanced nonlinear transmission line phase shifter

    Abstract: A nonlinear transmission line phase shifter has multiple transmission line sections connected together at nodes in series between input and output terminals. First and second diodes are connected to each node in parallel with each other and with opposite polarity. A bias voltage source is connected to the first diodes to bias the diodes off and a bias voltage source is connected to the second diodes to bias the second diodes off. During operation, one of the two diodes in each section slows the phase velocity while the other accelerates the phase velocity, so that harmonic distortion can be reduced as compared to conventional nonlinear transmission line structures.
