  • Patent number: 11767250
Abstract: A method of forming a 3D mirror for a heads-up display (HUD) system includes providing a glass-based preform having a first major surface, a second major surface, and a minor surface connecting the first and second major surfaces, and further includes disposing the glass-based preform on a mold having a concave surface such that the first and second longitudinal side surfaces are adjacent to a longitudinal wall of a housing. The longitudinal wall extends from the concave surface to at least a height of the second major surface of the glass-based preform. The method further includes supplying a vacuum and conforming the second major surface to the concave surface of the mold using the vacuum. The first and second transverse side surfaces have a curved shape corresponding to a curve of the concave surface a remain coincident with the concave surface during the conforming of the second major surface.

  • Patent number: 11550148
Abstract: A method of forming a curved mirror for a heads-up display includes providing a mirror preform including a first major surface, a second major surface, and a minor surface connecting the first and second major surfaces. The minor preform has a central portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the central portion. The method includes disposing the minor preform on a mold having a concave surface facing the second major surface and within a housing that surrounds at least a portion of the minor surface, a space being defined between the concave surface and the second major surface with a perimeter of the space being bounded by the housing, the mold comprising a ditch-type vacuum line along a periphery of the concave surface underneath the peripheral portion. The method also includes providing vacuum pressure to the space via the ditch-type vacuum line to conform the mirror preform to the concave surface.

  • Publication number: 20180237327
Abstract: A vacuum forming mold includes a cavity and a vacuum suction opening communicating with the cavity. The vacuum suction opening is provided in a sidewall surface of the cavity, such that air inside the cavity below a substrate is sucked out through the sidewall surface. A vacuum forming method includes seating a substrate on the vacuum forming mold and subsequently sucking out air inside the cavity below the substrate through the vacuum suction opening, such that the air is sucked out through the sidewall surface.
