  • Patent number: 8374856
Abstract: A method and apparatus for concealing frame loss and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving a speech signal that are capable of reducing speech quality degradation caused by packet loss are provided. In the method, when loss of a current received frame occurs, a random excitation signal having the highest correlation with a periodic excitation signal (i.e., a pitch excitation signal) decoded from a previous frame received without loss is used as a noise excitation signal to recover an excitation signal of a current lost frame. Furthermore, a third, new attenuation constant (AS) is obtained by summing a first attenuation constant (NS) obtained based on the number of continuously lost frames and a second attenuation constant (PS) predicted in consideration of change in amplitude of previously received frames to adjust the amplitude of the recovered excitation signal for the current lost frame.

  • Patent number: 8359199
Abstract: A frame erasure concealment technique for a bitstream-based feature extractor in a speech recognition system particularly suited for use in a wireless communication system operates to “delete” each frame in which an erasure is declared. The deletions thus reduce the length of the observation sequence, but have been found to provide for sufficient speech recognition based on both single word and “string” tests of the deletion technique.

  • Patent number: 8170885
Abstract: Disclosed is a wideband audio signal coding/decoding device and method that may code a wideband audio signal while maintaining a low bit rate. The wideband audio signal coding device includes an enhancement layer that extracts a first spectrum parameter from an inputted wideband signal having a first bandwidth, quantizes the extracted first spectrum parameter, and converts the extracted first spectrum parameter into a second spectrum parameter; and a coding unit that extracts a narrowband signal from the inputted wideband signal and codes the narrowband signal based on the second spectrum parameter provided from the enhancement layer, wherein the narrowband signal has a second bandwidth smaller than the first bandwidth. The wideband audio signal coding/decoding device and method may code a wideband audio signal while maintaining a low bit rate.

  • Patent number: 7979272
Abstract: The present invention provides a frame erasure concealment device and method that is based on reestimating gain parameters for a code excited linear prediction (CELP) coder. During operation, when a frame in a stream of received data is detected as being erased, the coding parameters, especially an adaptive codebook gain gp and a fixed codebook gain gc, of the erased and subsequent frames can be reestimated by a gain matching procedure. By using this technique with the IS-641 speech coder, it has been found that the present invention improves the speech quality under various channel conditions, compared with a conventional extrapolation-based concealment algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7711556
Abstract: Methods and systems for filtering synthesized or reconstructed speech are implemented. A filter based on a set of linear predictive coding (LPC) coefficients is constructed by transforming the LPC coefficients to the pseudo-cepstrum, a domain existing between LPC domain and the line spectral frequency (LSF) domain. The resulting filter can emphasize spectral frequencies associated with various formants, or spectral peaks, of an inverse transfer function relating to the LPC coefficients, and can de-emphasize spectral frequencies associated with various spectral minima, or spectral valleys, of the inverse transfer function relating to the LPC coefficients.

  • Publication number: 20090119105
Abstract: The example embodiment of the present invention provides an acoustic model adaptation method for enhancing recognition performance for a non-native speaker's speech. In order to adapt acoustic models, first, pronunciation variations are examined by analyzing a non-native speaker's speech. Thereafter, based on variation pronunciation of a non-native speaker's speech, acoustic models are adapted in a state-tying step during a training process of acoustic models. When the present invention for adapting acoustic models and a conventional acoustic model adaptation scheme are combined, more-enhanced recognition performance can be obtained. The example embodiment of the present invention enhances recognition performance for a non-native speaker's speech while reducing the degradation of recognition performance for a native speaker's speech.
