Abstract: A driver assistance apparatus including a camera configured to obtain image data with a forward field of view of a host vehicle; a radar configured to obtain radar data with a sensing field of view in the vicinity of the host vehicle; and a controller electrically connected to the camera and the radar, wherein the controller detects a preceding vehicle traveling in front of the host vehicle based on the image data and the radar data, performs adaptive cruise control (ACC) to maintain a target inter-vehicle distance between the host vehicle and the preceding vehicle, identifies a lateral deviation of the preceding vehicle relative to the host vehicle while performing ACC; and calibrates the target inter-vehicle distance between the host vehicle and the preceding vehicle based on the lateral deviation of the preceding vehicle.
