  • Patent number: 7804905
Abstract: A signal converter having a memory bank and radix-2 Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) transforms an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal having a long preamble and data into an OFDM signal in the frequency domain, and outputs the transformed OFDM signal. The radix-2 FFT has a linear systolic array architecture, transforms the long preamble stored in the memory bank by FFT, then stores the transformed long preamble into the memory bank, transforms data input through a buffering process and data input directly by FFT, and stores the transformed data in the memory bank. The memory bank has four memories, stores the long preamble transformed or not transformed and outputs the stored long preambles or the transformed data for the purpose of demodulation as the transformed data is input. Data-processing delay and/or power consumption may be reduced during the operation of the FFT processor.

  • Patent number: 7418246
Abstract: A physical layer unit (PLU) for receiving (and transmitting) various signals, a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) system including the PLU, and a wireless LAN method using the wireless LAN system. The wireless LAN system is capable of receiving signals of different standards, by performing a first preamble processing of an input signal for a predetermined first time period of 16 ?s (the preamble processing time period according to an OFDM standard for determining whether the input signal corresponds to the OFDM standard), and performing a second preamble processing within a predetermined second time period (the remainder of a preamble processing time period for determining whether the input signal corresponds to a DSSS/CCK standard), if the input signal does not correspond to the OFDM standard. Therefore, DSSS/CCK and OFDM signals can be transmitted and received reliably in the integrated wireless LAN system according to the IEEE 802.11.g standard.

  • Publication number: 20040190440
Abstract: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmitting and receiving apparatus and methods can extend a communication distance by duplicated transmission of symbols in multiple channels. An input OFDM data bitstream is encoded to generate a symbol stream. The symbol stream is copied into multiple symbol streams and converted into data complex symbol streams by a modulation method. An input pilot bitstream is converted into a pilot complex symbol stream, and the pilot complex symbol stream is inserted into the data complex symbol streams to generate transmission symbol streams. Fast Fourier transform (FFT) processing of the transmission symbol streams is performed. Guard intervals (GIs) are inserted into the FFT processed signals. The signals are converted into analog signals, loaded onto carriers and transmitted.
