  • Patent number: 7171862
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus and methods allow collection of concentrated samples of content in shipping packages without unsealing the package by forcing airflow via existing hidden gaps or, if necessary, creating one by a small incision. The air is injected into the hidden gaps by either probe or socket device to disturb and agitate contents inside the package, causing the contents to loosen and blending particulates on the surface into the air stream. Airborne particles are channeled into a detection device, where the particulates are concentrated. Display and warning apparatus receive and record the analysis results from the detection device. If the analysis finds that predetermined selection and sensitivity criteria for target hazard or contraband material are met, then the warning apparatus initiates the appropriate alert protocols.

  • Publication number: 20050094923
Abstract: The invention relates to a fabrication of an integrated optical isolator using a Multi-Mode Interference (MMI) structure and a cladding layer comprising magneto-optical material, which remove needless reflection generated in the course of light propagation and make short length integration possible. Thus, the invention uses nonreciprocal phase shift effect that optical characteristics are altered according to the direction of light propagation. In order to fabricate a light waveguide optical isolator, an input light should be separated into two light waveguides having the same power. That is, for the purpose of reducing the length of optical isolator device, the waveguide length needed to separate an input light into two light waveguides should be shortened. Since the light waveguide length of MMI structure is much shorter than the length of Mach-Zehnder light waveguide for separating an input light into two waveguides, the length of optical isolator device using MMI structure can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6780702
Abstract: When InP DHBTs are located in parallel to a crystallographical direction of <011>, there are several advantages in the aspect of device property such as reliability. But, in case of a direction parallel to a general <011>, there exists the limitation in reducing base-collector parasitic capacitance only by collector over-etching technique due to poor lateral-etching characteristic of the InP collector. To overcome such a problem mentioned above and improve device performance, the present invention provides a method of reducing parasitic capacitance using underneath crystallographically selective wet etching, thereby providing a self-alignable, structurally stable device.

  • Patent number: 6631121
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing an overhead channel of a base station in a mobile communication system. The method begins with the step of calculating a load of the base station and determining a threshold value as a percentage of the calculated load. The system then monitors an actual load of the base station to determine if the load has reached the threshold value. If the load reaches the threshold value, an additional overhead channel assignment request message is transmitted to a channel card interface processor which assigns an additional overhead channel in response. If the load is subsequently lowered, an overhead channel assignment release request message is provided to the channel card interface processor which releases the additional overhead channel.

  • Patent number: 6589801
Abstract: A method is disclosed for manufacturing chip-scale semiconductor packages at a wafer-scale level using wafer mapping techniques. In the method, a semiconductor wafer and/or a circuit substrate, each respectively comprising a plurality of individual chips and circuit pattern units, is/are pre-tested and discriminated in terms of the quality and/or grade of each individual chip unit and/or circuit pattern unit contained therein. The test results are marked on the lower surface of each chip unit and/or on each pattern unit. The substrate is laminated to the wafer to form a laminated assembly prior to performing the packaging process, which typically includes a wire bonding step, an encapsulation step and a solder ball welding step. A plurality of connected package units are thereby formed in the laminated substrate-wafer assembly. The package units are then singulated from each other and the laminated assembly by a cutting process.
