  • Patent number: 9190881
Abstract: Counterpart discs with respective sets of permanent magnets disposed at their periphery are rotated through an alternating sequence of repulsive and attractive positions to yield a repeating cycle of attractive and repulsive forces. At least one of the discs is freed to travel along the axis of relative rotation in response to the cyclical attractive/repulsive forces, thereby producing mechanical oscillation at a frequency determined by the number of magnetic positions in the two discs and the relative rotational speed of the discs.

  • Patent number: 6836949
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a sleeve on a spindle includes a frame, and a finger arrangement movably mounted on the frame, the finger arrangement including a plurality of fingers arranged at a common first radius around an imaginary centerline of the finger arrangement, the fingers being movable radially outwardly from the first radius to a second radius upon application of an outwardly directed force. A sleeve having an internal opening in which the fingers are disposed is adapted to be mounted on a stationary spindle by movement of the finger arrangement on the frame toward the spindle. A method for mounting a sleeve on a spindle is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6340090
Abstract: A fixturing device which supports a substrate or a plurality of substrates in a vertical orientation during cleaning, drying, and coating processing steps while minimizing the contact surfaces between the fixture and each substrate so that a maximum of the substrate surface is exposed. The fixturing device utilizes converging support surfaces that terminate at the closest point in a gap with a distance less than the thickness of a substrate. The converging support surfaces counter surface tension, cohesion of the liquid molecules, and the adhesion of the liquid molecules on the surface of the fixturing device. The gap in the converging support surfaces prevents the fixturing device from retaining liquid at the interface of the substrate and the fixture. In conjunction, the contoured passages enhance the drawing of liquid away from the fixturing device and prevents pooling and staining the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5325566
Abstract: An automatic wash station for cleaning magnetic disk recording and reproducing heads held in a magnetic head row tool during production of the magnetic heads to prevent damage due to abrasive particles or other contaminants. A first embodiment includes a housing through which a shuttle passes carrying a group of magnetic head row tools manually loaded in a vise. Dispensers above the shuttle spray DI water for a pre-rinse, surfactant and DI water during cleaning and brushing, DI water for a post rinse, and air for final drying. Rotating brushes are arranged parallel and perpendicular to the motion of the shuttle through the housing. The shuttle can move both through the housing in a straight fashion, and back and forth from side to side of the housing. Operation of the shuttle, dispensers and rotating brushes can be programmed to be automatic, or can be done manually. In a second embodiment, a spring loaded clamp operates to allow manual loading and unloading of individual magnetic head row tools.

  • Patent number: 5114557
Abstract: Selective plating apparatus for a web includes optical sensor means rigidly attached directly to the plating mask. The optical sensor means is physically isolated from corrosive chemical and vapors in the environment, and cleaning means keeps the ends of the optical fibers free of salt and chemicals and otherwise prevents corrosion.

  • Patent number: 4608479
Abstract: A splicer-welder (13) for multiple reels (11,12) of continuous tapes of multiple connected integrated circuit lead-frames to be conveyed through a lead-frame preparation line (10) includes fixed electrodes (40) positioned adjacent an entry slot (45) and spring-loaded movable electrodes (59) normally spaced from the fixed electrodes. The end of the lead-frame tape is sensed and by use of an accumulator section of multiple pulleys (18,19,20) one of which is movable on a rail (21), the span of tape between pulleys acts as a reserve of tape for continuous downstream processing of the tape while the end of the tape is stopped. Sprocket holes on the tape ends are placed on retaining pins (41,42) alongside the electrodes and one or more frames of a beginning of a second lead-frame tape from a second reel are overlapped with one or more frames of the end of the first tape.
