  • Patent number: 4200703
Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of a heat-stable, nuclear-brominated polystyrene by brominating, at -20.degree. C. to +40.degree. C., a polystyrene dissolved in a chlorinated hydrocarbon in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, an improvement is provided wherein the catalyst further comprises 0.02 to 2 moles, per mole of Lewis acid, of a nucleophilic substance which acts as a Lewis base for the Lewis acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 2, 1979
Date of Patent: April 29, 1980
    Assignee: Chemische Werke Huls A.G.
Inventors: Klaus Diebel, Horst-Dieter Wulf, Raban Grundmann, Gunther Maahs
  • Patent number: 4061687
Abstract: Method for the recovery of cobalt as cobalt hydrocarbonyl from a water mono- or diacid, cobalt salt solution which is obtained from the cobalt removal from oxo alcohols, preferably after the addition of higher olefins. These solutions are treated with carbon monoxide and hydrogen under high pressure and high temperature in the presence of an organic solvent wherein the water, mono- or diacid cobalt solutions are treated with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of butanol, in which the butanol to solution ratio ranges from 1:2 through 1:5 at a temperature of between about 140.degree. C to 200.degree. C and a pressure of between about 100 and 300 atmospheres in a homogenous phase followed by cooling between about 0.degree. C and 110.degree. C and separation of the butanol-cobalt hydrocarbonyl phase from the water phase.

    Inventors: Manfred Kaufhold, Horst-Dieter Wulf
  • Patent number: 4015943
Abstract: Dimethyl terephthalate is prepared by the continuous esterification of terephthalic acid in the gas phase by evaporating solid terephthalic acid in a pre-reactor by means of a hot methanol vapor stream, conducting the gas mixture through a solid bed catalyst in a follow-up reactor, and recirculating a portion of the reaction product to the pre-reactor. After the pre-reactor the terephthalic acid dispersed in the methanol gas phase is heated and vaporized in one or more consecutive heat exchangers followed by one or more dwell period lengths and immediately heated to the esterification temperature prior to entry into the follow-up reactor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1976
Date of Patent: April 5, 1977
    Assignee: Chemische Werke Huls Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Horst-Dieter Wulf, Ferdinand List, Friedrich-August Orlowski, Norbert Wilke, Emmerich Pflegerl
