  • Patent number: 9037303
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are disclosed of a control for an HVAC system. The control has an alphanumeric display, a plurality of two position switches (e.g., push buttons, etc.), and a processor. The processor receives a current user input through at least one of the two position switches and determines a response to the current user input. The determining is performed using one or more previously received user inputs, if any, via one or more of the two position switches. The processor implements the determined response by displaying a message on the alphanumeric display and/or changing an operational parameter of the HVAC system.

  • Publication number: 20080120446
Abstract: Various embodiments of a thermostat are provided that comprise at least one user input means for enabling the user to input at least one request, a universal serial bus interface, a display device capable of displaying at least a number of alphanumeric characters configured to display information relating to a service provider, and a microprocessor in communication with the universal serial bus interface, the display device and the user input means. The microprocessor is capable of monitoring the user input means for a request to retrieve information relating to a service provider, and is configured to respond to such a request by requesting communication through the universal serial bus interface of information relating to the service provider. The microprocessor (is further configured to communicate the information relating to the service provider to the display device, which information may include the name and phone number of the service provider.

  • Patent number: 7191039
Abstract: A controller for a fuel-fired appliance comprising a microprocessor that is able to detect an interruption in power, and immediately store errors and historical diagnostic information in a non-volatile memory before the microprocessor powers down. Upon restoration of power, the microprocessor would flash or display the most recent error codes on the controller's diagnostic LED or display. The microprocessor is also able to detect an open fuse condition, and flash or display the fuse error on the display.

  • Patent number: 7048537
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for controlling a fuel fired heating appliance, the apparatus comprising a first processor for controlling the ignition operation of the furnace and a second processor for controlling the operation of a variable speed blower motor, wherein the first processor sends communication signals to the second processor requesting a desired speed of the blower motor to provide air flow for combustion. The second processor responsively sends a signal to the first processor indicating the receipt of the requested speed for the blower motor. The apparatus further comprises at least one pressure switch, where the first processor senses an opening of the pressure switch and responds by successively sending incrementally higher speed request signals to the second processor until the first processor detects the closing of the at least one pressure switch.
