  • Patent number: 9062165
Abstract: This invention relates to expanded polyester materials comprised of polyester/acrylic elastomer blend having an improved ductility and impact resistance, while the compression strength, shear strength/modulus of polyesters remain almost unchanged or unworsened. Addition of a non-reactive/reactive acrylic mixture serving as the blend partner improves the melt strength in an expanding process and leads to a better impact resistance of expanded aromatic polyester materials. All expanded polyester materials are produced with help of a reactive process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 2011
Date of Patent: June 23, 2015
Assignee: ARMACELL ENTERPRISE GMBH & CO. KG

  • Publication number: 20110266487
Abstract: Manufacturing of polyester based expanded materials made mostly of pre-cleaned and compounded post-consumer polyester by increasing the intrinsic viscosity (IV) during an extrusion process is described. By careful selection of processing conditions and parameters, it is possible to obtain low density polyester foam material with good cellular structure and under stable processing conditions.

  • Publication number: 20110130475
Abstract: The composition and the preparation of a chain-extending concentrate for production of foamed cellular materials of aromatic polyesters is disclosed in this invention. The chain-extending concentrate includes an ethylene-acrylate copolymer, a high-temperature thermoplastic and a multifunctional compound. The preparation process includes two steps: 1) Mixing and melt blending the multifunctional compound and the HT thermoplastic resin into the matrix of the ethylene-acrylate copolymer in an internal mixer and 2) extrusion of the mixture at a temperature below the melting point or reaction temperature of the multifunctional compound.

  • Publication number: 20100305224
Abstract: An expanded cellular material from aromatic polyester resins obtained by a reactive extrusion foaming of polyester resins, wherein the polyester foam provided with flame retardancy achieves a total heat release (THR600s) less than 6.0 MJ, a fire growth rate (FIGRA) less than 430.0 W/s, a total smoke production (TSP600s) less than 165.0 MJ and no flaming droplets/particles within 600 s according to Single Burning Item (SBI) prEN 13823.
