    Abstract: A drive unit in a motor vehicle is mounted with two elastic motor mounts, of which each in each case couples an engine support, connected rigidly to the drive unit, elastically to a body structure of the motor vehicle, and with a torque support which is arranged above the two motor mounts transversely with respect to the vehicle longitudinal axis and which is coupled at one end to the drive unit and is coupled at another end to the body structure and is configured such that the two ends are connected, damped elastically, to one another. There is also provided a damping support arranged at a lower level than the torque support transversely with respect to the vehicle longitudinal axis and which is coupled at one end to the drive unit and is coupled at another end to the body structure. The damping support is configured such that transverse vibrations of the drive unit are damped.

    Abstract: A power saw has two oppositely reciprocating saw blades guided and supported in a receiving slot in a support plate. The blades are supported during sawing along shoulders on their outside by lower edges of support sections of the support plate. The arrangement is such that forces generated in operation during cutting press the saw blades together in the area of their teeth. This prevents saw dust, chippings etc. penetrating between the two saw blades. Preferably, the thickness of the saw blade shoulders are not greater than half the thickness of the saw blades, and preferably no greater than the thickness of the support section edges. The teeth of the saw blades may be so ground and arranged that the resultant force on the teeth during cutting also forces the saw blades together at their teeth.

    Abstract: A saw blade comprises a support member having at least one edge, and, spaced along that edge, a series of slots in each of which is secured a saw tooth and in which a portion of the tooth is located within the slot and a further portion extends beyond the slot to overlie a portion of a surface of the support member.Part of the slot and a part of the tooth may be sector-shaped, each slot may include an entry portion with side edges and a base edge or edges, and the tip of the sector-shaped part is located centrally of the base edge, the sector-shaped part communicating with the entry portion via an opening in the base edge whose sides are rounded and which are a tight fit with a mating portion of a tooth, the remainder of a tooth fitting into the slot with some clearance.The invention also extends to a tooth for the saw blade, the tooth having a cutting portion and a body portion to locate in said slot.

    Abstract: A hand-held power tool, for example a reciprocating saw, a chain saw, or a hedge trimmer, has a rear handle and a T-shaped forward handle formed by a forwardly directed strut with a crossbar. Looped side handles are detachably mounted on each side of the tool. Upper legs of the side handles are detachably connected to opposite ends of the forward handle crossbar. Lower legs of the side handles are detachably connected to bosses on opposite sides of the tool's housing adjacent its bottom. The side handles can be mounted with screws, or interlocking elements, or a combination of both. Preferably the forward handle is integrally formed with an upper part of the tool's housing. Both side handles may be omitted and the tool held by the forward and rear handles, this reducing the width of the tool.

    Abstract: A saw blade, for a power saw having two such blades arranged adjacent and parallel to each other and reciprocating in opposite directions, comprises an elongate blade member having teeth along a bottom edge. The teeth comprise at least three types, a first type being at an outer surface of the blade member, a third type being at the inner surface, and the second type being therebetween. The first type are shaped to produce on the blade's bottom edge an outward force away from the inner surface while cutting a workpiece, and the second and third types are shaped to produce on the blade's bottom edge an inward force, the resultant force on the teeth while cutting urging the teeth in an inward direction away from the outer surface towards the inner surface. When the power saw is operating with a pair of these blades, the blades are urged together at their teeth by the cutting action so effectively eliminating penetration of sawdust and cuttings between the pair of blades.

    Abstract: A rotary hammer has a reciprocating piston of a pneumatic impact mechanism driven from a rotatable drive shaft. A coupling element is fixed on, and a drive element slidably mounted on, the drive shaft. These elements have interengageble tapered coupling surfaces and are biased apart by a spring therebetween. The drive element is disposed forwardly of the coupling element and is slidable rearwardly to drivingly engage the coupling surfaces for transmitting drive to the piston. The relative disposition of the drive and coupling elements causes reaction force on the piston, consequential in use upon generation of percussive blows, to urge the drive element into intensified engagement with the coupling element.

    Abstract: A rotary hammer with a pneumatic impact mechanism carries on a drive shaft, non-rotatably and non-displaceable axially relative thereto, a coupling element as well as, rotatably and displaceable axially relative thereto, a drive element. The drive element has a peripheral drive fin constituting a cam/control curve which engages between two rollers. The rollers are mounted on the rear end of a piston of the pneumatic impact mechanism with their axes of rotation perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the piston. The drive element can at choice be brought into engagement with the coupling element. A manually operable control member may be operated to maintain the drive element out of such engagement.

    Abstract: A chop saw has a saw unit connected pivotally about a horizontal axis to a turntable mounted rotatably in a base plate about a vertical axis. An indexing mechanism for locating rotational positions of the turntable comprises catch recesses on the underside of the turntable along a circular arc. A leaf spring is mounted on the base plate and has a free end engageable in the catch recesses upon rotation of the turntable. A release element is movably mounted in the base plate and operable to flex the leaf spring to move the free end thereof out of engagement with any catch recess engaged thereby. Advantageously the leaf spring and the base plate may be integrally molded or cast. Also, the catch recesses may conveniently be formed during casting or molding of the turntable.

    Abstract: A power tool has a changeover mechanism for varying at least one operational mode of the power tool. A rotatable control member having a lateral periphery is connected to the changeover mechanism. A detachable cover plate, forming part of the housing of the power tool, has an aperture therein through which the control member protrudes, and the lateral periphery of the control member is covered by the cover plate. A latching arrangement comprises a first latch component formed in said lateral periphery, and a second latch component located on the underside of the cover plate, the first and second latch components cooperating to retain the control member in a selected position, and one of these latch components is resilient. Preferably the second latch component is resilient and may be formed integrally with the cover plate. The cover plate may have two apertures for two control members with a common resilient latch member on the cover plate for both control members.

    Abstract: A power tool having a plastics material housing and a power output spindle is provided with a tube-like metal member in the front end of the housing. A bearing is received within the tube-like member for supporting the spindle. The tube-like member has at the front end thereof radially outwardly extending tabs for dissipating heat therefrom. The tabs are preferably partially embedded in the plastics material of the front end of the housing for anchoring the member therein, alternate tabs preferably being angled rearwardly. The member may also support ratchet teeth of a hammer drill. A fan may be mounted on the spindle in the region of the front end of the member for facilitating dissipation of heat from the radial tabs.

    Abstract: A multi-speed hammer-drill has a rotary-reciprocatory output spindle journaled in its housing. A fixed hammer member is mounted about the spindle in a forward portion of the housing and a cooperating hammer member is carried on the spindle. A cam member cooperates with the rearward end of the spindle for selectively changing between drilling and hammer-drilling modes. A three-speed transmission includes an axially-shiftable gear member carried by the spindle and disposed axially between the cam member and the cooperating hammer members with two non-axially movable gears freely rotatably mounted on said spindle one on each side of the axially-shiftable gear. A key is received in a longitudinal keyway in the spindle and keys the axially-shiftable gear member to the spindle. The key has a length substantially equal to the axial distance between the non-axially movable gears for maintaining a spaced relationship therebetween.

    Abstract: A portable electric tool with a housing having a motor compartment and a pistol grip handle is provided with a trigger-switch, incorporating a motor reversing switch, mounted in the handle. An elongated lever is pivoted intermediate its length and contained within the housing. The rear end of the lever is connected to the reversing switch for actuation thereof. The forward end of the lever has a downwardly projecting protrusion which engages in a slide member which is slidable along an arcuate slot in the lower wall of the motor compartment for pivoting the lever. Intermediate the forward end of the lever and the pivotal axis of the lever is a downwardly projecting pin which coacts with a partition and two grooves in the upper part of the trigger-switch to block the movement of the trigger until the lever has been pivoted to actuate the reversing switch, and also to prevent pivoting of the lever while the trigger is in an inward position energizing the tool.
