    Abstract: Disclosed is a casting resin based on acrylic acid esters having a high content of finely dispersed fillers and containing a mixture of organosilicon compounds having functional groups and metallic acid esters of metals of Groups IVB and VB of the Periodic Table of the Elements. The functional group of the organosilicon compound is ethylenically unsaturated and bound to the silicon atom either directly or through alkylene groups. The addition of this mixture to the casing resins produces a desirable reduction of the viscosity of these resins, which are used, for example, for the manufacture of sanitary articles.The filler content is at least 20% and can be as high as 95% with the proviso that when the filler content is in excess of 80 wt. -%, the filler contains 10 to 30 wt. -%, based on the total weight of filler, of fines having a particle size less than 0.1 mm and the remainder of the filler being coarse up to 4 mm.

    Abstract: The present invention is in the preparation of methacrylic or acryloxyalkylalkoxysilanes by the reaction at a temperature of from 80.degree. and 130.degree. C. of an alkali (meth) acrylate with a halogen alkylalkoxysilane in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt which has long-chin alkyl moieties, in which the sum of all carbon atoms is between 10 and 40 as a phase-transfer catalyst. In the new procedure no solvents need to be used. The yields are better than 95%.

    Abstract: Disclosed are casting resins made from acrylic acid esters with a high content of finely dispersed fillers. The casting resins contain a polymeric organosilicon compound having functional and nonfunctional groups. As functional groups, the copolymer contains one or more alkoxysilyl groups and one or more (meth)acryloxysilyl groups. The copolymer furthermore contains by copolymerization at least one nonfunctional comonomer having an ethylenically unsaturated grouping as well as an additional comonomer of the group of the vinyl carboxylic acid esters and (meth)acrylic acid esters, if desired. The addition of these polymeric organosilanes to known casting resins brings about a greater lowering of the viscosity of these resins, which are used, for example, for the manufacture of sanitary appliances.

The functional group of the organosilicon compound is ethylenically unsaturated and bound to the silicon atom either directly or by alkylene groups. The casting resins of the invention have improved working qualities. Plastic objects and moldings manufactured from these resins have decidedly improved use properties.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to copolymers which can be used as adhesion mediating agents (adhesivers) between polymers and inorganic-oxide material. They are characterized by a reactive alkoxysilyl group and an acrylic or methacrylic acid moiety. Each of these two groups is linked to a fundamental constituent having two chain carbon atoms, this fundamental constituent being constructed on a compound having an ethylenically unsaturated group as monomer. The ratio of the alkoxysilyl groups to the acrylic or methacrylic acid esters in the new copolymers can be established as desired, for example by copolymerizing the copolymers with other compounds having ethylenically unsaturated groups, which do not have the above-named moieties. The present invention also relates to a method of preparing these new copolymers as well as intermediates which occur in the practice of this method, as formerly unknown products.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to new organosilane esters which can be characterized by the formula Y-(CH.sub.2).sub.n Si(CH.sub.3).sub.p -X.sub.m Z.sub.3-(m+p). In this formula, Y represents either a substituted or unsubstituted amino group, or it represents the mercapto moiety or the moiety ##STR1## X represents an alkoxy group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and Z a glycol ether moiety. The index n can assume the numerical values from 1 to 3, m can be 0 or 1 and p can be 0 or 1 or 2, on the condition that m+p is equal to or less than 2. The new silanes yield very stable hydrolyzates and have good adhesion-improving properties. They are therefore particularly well suited for use in sealing compositions.

    Abstract: The present invention is in the modification of starch by silanes and is performed by bringing the starch into intimate contact with the hydrolyzates of the silanes in the presence of alkali aluminates or alkali hydroxides. Preferably this is done in the aqueous solution of the silane hydrolyzate, in which case the additives can be used either in aqueous solution or in solid form. The aluminate or alkali hydroxide is present at least in such an amount that 0.4 mol of aluminate will be present for each mole of silane. The modification is possible not only with alkyl alkoxysilanes, but also with organofunctional alkoxysilanes. The starch modified with the silanes has better practical properties than corresponding unmodified starch and can be used, for example, for the hydrophobation and oleophobation of cellulosic material.
