  • Patent number: 5130440
Abstract: A process for the production of 2-alkyl- or alkenyl-2-oxazolines, in which the alkyl or alkenyl group may be a hydroxy-, dihydroxy- or hydroxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy-substituted hydrocarbon radical containing at least 7 carbon atoms, produces the subject compounds in high yields when C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty acids or esters thereof are reacted with 2-amino-ethanol or ethanolamides of these fatty acids in the presence of titanium or zirconium compounds corresponding to the formula M(OR.sup.2).sub.4 wherein M=Ti or Zr.

  • Patent number: 4945177
Abstract: Novel 2,2-dibromo-3-oxonitriles of Formula I,R--CO--CBr.sub.2 --CN (I)in which R represents in each case a possibly substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, with the exception of a phenyl group substituted with 1 to 3 chlorine atoms, can be obtained in that a carboxylic acid ester of Formula IIR--CO--OR' (II)in which R has the significance indicated for Formula I, and in which R' represents a straight chain or branched alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, is reacted with acetonitrile in the presence of a strong base, the 3-oxonitrile produced is isolated from the reaction mixture and reacted in a solvent inert with respect to bromine and in the presence of a hydrogen bromide acceptor, possibly under cooling, and the 2,2-dibromo-3-oxonitrile of Formula I obtained is isolated from the reaction mixture.

  • Patent number: 4904640
Abstract: 2-Alkylidene-3,3,5(3,5,5)-trimethylcyclopentanones corresponding to the following general formula ##STR1## in which three of the substituents R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 are CH.sub.3, one of the substituents R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 is H, and R.sub.5 is a saturated or unsaturated, linear branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl radical, and the double bond is in the endo position to the cyclopentanone structure. The compounds of formula (I) are useful as perfumes.

  • Patent number: 4833247
Abstract: A process for the production of 2-benzyl fatty acids and esters thereof corresponding to the following formula ##STR1## comprising reacting 2-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines with benzaldehydes corresponding to the formula R.sup.2 --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 --CHO to form 2-(1-benzylidene)-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines, catalytically hydrogenating the products of this reaction to the 2-(1-benzyl)-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl oxazolines and converting the products thus formed by acid-catalyzed hydrolysis or solvolysis with an alcohol of the formula R.sup.5 OH into the 2-benzyl fatty acids or esters thereof. Amidosulfonic acid gives particularly high yields as catalyst for the reaction of the 2-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines with the benzaldehydes.
