  • Publication number: 20100140853
Abstract: A lance holder 1 characterized by a high level of operating safety is equipped with a holder or tube fixing system which reliably prevents even a bent lance tube 2 from turning in the lance holder 1. The clamping head 3 has a fixing part 4 and a clamping part 5 which ensure punctiform fixing by means of suitably-displaceable pressure elements 16 in the form of balls 20. Three such balls 20, 20? are distributed around the circumference and provide for secure fixing and a wide tolerance range in respect of the dimensions of the lance tubes 2. Said wide tolerance range is also ensured by the possibility of using sealing sleeves 6 with a large internal diameter, which are pressed securely and directly against the wall 18 of the lance tube 2 without compression by insertion of a wedge 22.

  • Patent number: 6171545
Abstract: The use of oxygen lance tubes 12 for refining in connection with steel production is simplified and configured more safely in that the sealing casing 14 is allocated a slidable pressure piston 15 in which pressure media act on the pressure casing 14 to a limited extent, thus improving the mounting of the lance tube 12; the latter is fixed from the other side over the pressure casing 4 pushed on to the collet 3. Upon activation of the adjusting facility 11, regardless of whether it is a pneumatic or manually operated adjusting facility 11, the pressure casing 4 slides down from the collet 3 and the interior space 16 is simultaneously connected with the atmosphere through a bypass 17 with a shut-off valve 18. Any excessive oxygen pressure possibly developing here, for example as a consequence of a lance tube 12 blocked by slag, may be rapidly reduced without endangering the operating crew.

  • Patent number: 5131636
Abstract: The lance holder for an oxygen lance has a substantially increased reliability and safety, since a valve disk slidable against the force of a valve disk spring by insertion of the lance is provided in a retaining body between the slag run back safety device and a gripping head. This valve disk is forced from the valve seat on insertion of the lance so that the refinery gas can pass through the lance holder without more. If through some error the lance is released, i.e. by slipping out from the holder, the valve disk automatically closes so that the oxygen gas provided can not flow through. A contact of the oxygen-supply hose with the lance holder attached to it is thus reliably prevented. At the same time the slag run back safety device and the clamping head are formed so that a very compact lance holder results.

  • Patent number: 5106061
Abstract: A compact lance, for tuyeres. The lance provides a compact and secure holder by providing a bushing between a collet chuck and a gasket sleeve. This bushing can move axially inside an inner hole of the handle, but cannot rotate in the hole. The bushing acts on the collet chuck to keep it immobile. Twisting of the tuyere is prevented by a slot in the bushing, a radial hole in the handle and a locator screw. By turning the locator screw down to the outer jacket of the tuyere, there is a fastening of the tuyere inside the tuyere holder. There is also a gas and slag holdback valve in the handle and a streamlined quick-action stop valve. A rapid closing valve is also provided and operated by means of an ergonomically designed operating lever.
