  • Patent number: 7347213
Abstract: An automatic drive-through vehicle wash is provided in which the vehicle is conveyed, by means of a drive, along a conveying stretch between wash rotors arranged on both sides of the conveying stretch. A rotating cleaning element extends transversely to the feed direction of the vehicle and principally impacts the front, the hood, and the roof areas of the vehicle, as well as the trunk of the vehicle. The cleaning element is supported by two pivotable carry levers that, together with a tie rod and a lever arm, each form a parallelogram spacer bar. Counter-weights on extension arms of each parallelogram spacer bar ensure that the cleaning element is balanced relative to the vehicle in any position and contacts the vehicle with a set contact force.

  • Publication number: 20050072450
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic drive-through car wash in which the vehicles are conveyed along a path of conveyance by means of a drive between washing rotors disposed at both sides of the path of conveyance. Said car wash is provided with a rotating cleaning element which is disposed at an angle to the direction of conveyance of the vehicle and which essentially impinges the front, the hood and the roof area as well as the rear of the vehicle. Said cleaning element is supported by swiveled support arms that are disposed on both sides and that are supported by a shaft that extends overhead across the path of conveyance. The invention is characterized in that the cleaning element (15), in any position, is balanced relative to the vehicle by a displaceable parallelogram steer (14, 12, 21, 23) having counter-weights (19, 26) and rests on the vehicle with a defined contact force.

  • Patent number: 4809721
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning the sideview mirror or mirrors of a vehicle in a washing line. A cleaning mechanism, such as a spray nozzle or drying nozzle holder, that essentially extends in a vertical direction is disposed to the side of a vehicle. The sides of the vehicle, along with the sideview mirror or mirrors thereof, are conveyed to pass along the cleaning mechanism. In order to improve cleaning of the sideview mirrors, a mirror-cleaning element, such as a spray nozzle element or a drying nozzle element, is disposed on the cleaning mechanism and is directed in the transport direction of the vehicle. This mirror-cleaning element can be a follower element by being mounted on a lever arm.

  • Patent number: 4562848
Abstract: In a car cleaning system for car washes having a car conveying device, a cleaning element which extends transversely to the direction of travel of the car. The cleaning element is held at its ends on a pair of lever arms which are swingable about a fixed swivel joint and can be changed in position in a manner corresponding to the contour of the car as viewed from the side of the car. The pair of lever arms is swingably guided in such a way that at the start of the cleaning process the lever arms are inclined obliquely downwardly in the direction opposite the direction of travel of the car and at the end of the cleaning process they are inclined obliquely downwardly in the same direction as the direction of travel of the car, terminating approximately in the region of the bottom of the car. The cleaning element is arranged for translation on the pair of lever arms, and is movable in such a manner that both at the beginning and at the end of the cleaning process it is at the lower end of the lever arms.

  • Patent number: 4550464
Abstract: A device for cleaning the wheels, and particularly the wheel rims, of a vehicle in a car wash. The device has a plurality of rotating cleaning brushes which can be pressed against the wheels to be cleaned substantially in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel of said vehicle, and a driver which can be actuated by at least one of the wheels, the cleaning brushes for the specific pair of wheels to be cleaned being mounted on a carriage; the carriage is freely movable in the direction of travel of the vehicle, and is coupled to the driver; the driver is actuated by at least one of said wheels and with the carriage in a starting position, produces the commencement of the cleaning process. Upon termination of the cleaning process the corresponding carriage is released whereupon provision is made for restoring the device to the starting position.
