The device has a plug made of a porous, absorbent material, which projects from a sleeve and is used to take a swab sample. The plug is located in one end of the sleeve. A closure, which can be opened by means of pressure, is located between the piston and the plug, so that a liquid arranged between the piston and the plug moves through the closure to the plug and wets same on actuation of the piston rod.

    Abstract: A detecting device in the form of a testing tube or dosimeter having a carrier indicating a color reaction requires a reagent liquid for carrying out a measurement. The reagent liquid is contained in a separate reagent supply vessel and the carrier is impregnated with a color indicator. For carrying out a measurement, the reagent supply from the supply vessel must be brought into contact with the porous carrier. A uniform wetting of the surface of the carrier subjected to the reagent solution is achieved after the reagent solution is emptied from the supply vessel. This is achieved by providing a reagent collection chamber between the carrier and the reagent supply vessel into which the reagent solution pours when the supply vessel is opened and wherein the reagent solution is accommodated and into which the carrier extends so that its end face is subjected to the reagent solution so that this end face can be wetted at the same time.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains to a multiple holder for test tubes, which receives a plurality of individual test tubes for the simultaneous flow-through of a gas sample with the gas entering the tubes through at least one opened end, from a connection piece which has a flow outlet. The multiple holder of the invention receives commercially available test tubes with fused tips and includes an arrangement to simultaneously open all the test tubes introduced. To achieve this, the multiple holder 1 is designed such that at least one section 6, 6a can be tilted down, as a result of which the tips 8 of all the test tubes 2 introduced can be broken off simultaneously at least at one end.

    Abstract: A method and device for the opening of breakable ampules, especially glass test tubes, includes a scoring tool for scratching the end which can be removed by a break-off device. A clean scratching of the ampule end can be executed, producing a smooth fracture by applying an ever constant force exerted on the ampule ends, in order to avoid lengthwise scratches in the body of the ampule from internal stresses. For this, an ampule receiver is provided, into which the ampule can be introduced as far as a stop. It is then rotated while lodged herein with the end of the ampule against the scoring tool. The scratched end of the ampule can be broken off when the ampule is advanced beyond a breaking step.

    Abstract: A housing contains a diffusion indicator tube provided with a predetermined breaking point and the housing has an upper part and a lower part joined together by a film hinge. To open the inserted diffusion indicator tube its predetermined breaking point is positioned opposite the film hinge. By bending the housing parts, the break-off end breaks off the test tube at the predetermined breaking point, thereby opening the reaction section. The parts of the test tube are removed, and then the reaction section is pushed into the upper part, now with its closed end first, whereupon it is snapped into the lower part. Its opening at the bottom shoulder of the lower part is exposed to the ambient atmosphere which diffuses into it. In the presence of the gas to be monitored there will be discoloration due to reaction. The discoloration can be observed continuously through the open side of the holding means.

    Abstract: A breathing alcohol testing device comprises a tube for blowing expiration air therethrough which has a first air entrance end and an opposite second end with means for accommodating a testing tube containing a gas detection substance. A pump is connected to the tube for moving expiration air through the tube and pressure sensing means are associated with the tube for sensing the pressure adjacent the entrance end for regulating the pump in accordance with the sensed pressure. In addition to the sensing of pressure, velocity may also be sensed and a control device is connected between the sensors and the pump so as to regulate the pump to start after the tube is engaged in a person's mouth and he begins expiring his breath into the tube and a certain pressure is generated at a certain velocity. The pump may be provided directly in the line ahead of the gas testing device for forcing the breathing air through the tube and through the testing device or it may be provided downstream of the testing device.

    Abstract: A portable explosion-proof gas detection device, comprises a housing which defines an interior flameproof motor chamber with an electric motor in the chamber having a pump drive shaft which extends outwardly into a pump chamber having a rotor connected to the electric motor shaft. The hose is connected through a twin fitting to a holder for a testing tube which has an opening at each end is positionable in a tube holder so that its open end is oriented in an opening in the housing for the inflow of air through the tube and through the pump for discharge out of the housing. The apparatus includes a control knob which actuates an electrical control circuit which is magnetically actuable by rotation of the knob to energize the electric motor from a battery source which is also arranged within the housing.
