  • Patent number: 4624691
Abstract: A cyclone separator and an installation of such a separator in a processing vessel are set forth which conditions the inlet flow to prevent the depositing of particulates at the cyclone inlet. The separator is disposed in a cylindrical enclosure represented by the processing vessel. The enclosure has an inner surface and defines a chamber to receive the gas and entrained particulates. Disposed within the chamber is the smaller diameter cyclone separator having a cylindrical wall. To admit gas, the separator wall has an inlet, one side boundary of which is arranged tangential with the enclosure inner surface, the other side boundary being spaced from the surface to define an axially extending, scroll-shaped envelope between the enclosure inner surface, the cyclone wall and its inlet.

  • Patent number: 4282626
Abstract: Cleaning devices are described which include a vacuum cleaner nozzle with a sharp rim for directing incoming air down against the floor; a vacuum cleaner wherein electrostatically charged brushes that brush dirt off a floor, are electrically grounded to remove charges that could tend to hold dirt to the brushes; a vacuum cleaner head having slots that form a pair of counter-rotating vortices, and that includes an outlet that blows a stream of air at the floor region which lies between the vortices; a cleaning device that sweeps a group of brushes against the ground along a first direction, and then sweeps them along the same ground area but in a second direction angled from the first by an amount such as 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4263027
Abstract: A multi-vortical separator for removing particulate matter suspended in a transport medium is described. A single pressure sealed enclosure has a plurality of contoured columnar baffles symmetrically arranged in quadruplets, the baffles having cooperating saddle portions that define four vortical flow initiating flow splitters. The columnar portions of the baffles cooperate to define regions of rotating fluid wherein the transport medium rotates and particulate matter, suspended within the medium, is separated therefrom by centrifugal action. The separated particulate matter impinges on the columnar surfaces of the baffles and falls in a gravity fall manner into a collection bin. A plurality of vortex finder tubes, placed within the regions of rotating fluid, receives cleansed air from a central portion of the regions and guides it to the separator outlet.
