    Abstract: The specification relates to a clay having kaolinite from 20-40 wt. %; illite from 15-30 wt. %; pigeonite from 5-15 wt. %; and quartz up to a maximum of 40 wt. %. The clay is for use as an agent for reducing concentration of phosphorous in a fluid. Also disclosed is a process for preparation of a modified clay, and a method of treatment of a fluid using the clay or modified clay.
