Abstract: A pointer control method and device applicable to a computer system with a keyboard are provided. The keyboard includes control keys and non-control keys arranged in a matrix and each has an X coordinate and a Y coordinates. In the method, after a first key event that more than two non-control keys are pressed simultaneously is detected, a first coordinate is calculated, in which the first coordinate includes an average value of X coordinates and an average value of Y coordinates. A second key event that one non-control key is pressed is then detected, and a second coordinate is calculated, in which the second coordinate includes an X coordinate and a Y coordinate. Finally, a vector defined by the first and second coordinate is calculated, and a moving direction and a moving speed of the pointer are controlled according to the vector.

Abstract: An input system for an electronic device including a main body includes an input device installed outside of the main body, comprising a plurality of input units denoted by a plurality of corresponding input symbols, a control device installed outside of the main body for pressing at least one of the plurality of input units for generating an indication signal, a camera for taking an image of the control device pressing the input unit, the image including the indication signal, and an image processing unit installed in the main body and coupled to the camera, for recognizing the pressed input unit according to a location of the indication signal in the image and generating input data corresponding to an input symbol denoting the pressed input unit.

Abstract: When a cursor control mode of an electronic device is enabled, an arrow cursor is converted into a transparent ball on a touch screen and touch input at any area of the touch screen is simulated as a contact point of a tangent plane to a virtual sphere utilized to be forced to roll on a virtual surface with specific rolling direction and speed, as the touch input moves along a specific direction with a specific speed on the touch screen. The data of the rolling direction and speed of the virtual sphere will be converted to corresponding movements of the transparent ball on the touch screen. No direct contact to the transparent ball is needed to move the transparent ball and any target icon will not be blocked by fingers. Enlargement of the content covered by the transparent ball also facilitates easy reading and recognition.
