Patent number: 8026936Abstract: A method for displaying images in a display apparatus is provided herein. In the display apparatus, an image is displayed during each frame period of a plurality of contiguous frames. At first, original images are received, and each of the received original images is composed of M number of contiguous image rows. A predetermined amount of frame periods are grouped as a frame group. During each frame period, one of M number of image rows is selected as an initial image row. From the initial image row, N number of image rows are selected from the M number of image rows according to an image row selection rule to constitute an image for displaying. In each frame group, at least two different initial parameters are used within two frame periods in order to output different images.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2007Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Novatek Microelectronics Corp.Inventor: Hou-Chun Ting

Patent number: 7916192Abstract: A method for compensating pixel values of defective pixels in an image processing system is provided. First, a normal image is captured to obtain the pixel values of a plurality of pixels, and the pixel values of the defective pixels are then marked as a specific pixel value. When the pixel values are to be compensated, the locations of the defective pixels are determined by locating the specific pixel value, and the average values of the neighboring pixels of these defective pixels are calculated and used as the pixel values of these defective pixels, so as to complete a compensation procedure. Besides, the present invention further includes closing the shutter to capture a dark image with similar exposure condition as the normal image does. The compensation procedure is performed after subtracting the dark image from the normal image so that the noise caused by dark current can be eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2007Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Novatek Microelectronics Corp.Inventor: Hou-Chun Ting

Patent number: 6480664Abstract: Tape formatting, tracking and trick mode data generation are disclosed for providing trick modes for compressed video stored on a video tape. The tape is formatted so that trick mode data is recorded at normal speed within certain areas delineated by predetermined boundaries that are within a maintainable range of a predetermined ideal scan path of the heads. These boundaries are oblique to the normal speed tracks and define trick mode data areas in which trick mode data may be recorded. To facilitate tracking, sync words and trick mode identification codes are interleaved within the trick mode data areas. During tracking, the heads reproduce the sync words and identification codes, and the identification codes that match the currently utilized trick mode are counted. The count during a current interval is compared to a count during a previous interval or a threshold to determine if the heads have locked onto the ideal scan path or deviated therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1997Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Inventors: Hou-Chun Ting, Hsueh-Ming Hang, Jang-Zern Tsai, Chien-Chen Liang

Patent number: 6367933Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing keystone distortion. A projected image is produced by projecting light through a display image rendered on a display device (e.g., and LCD panel) and onto a viewing surface at a non-perpendicular vertical and/or horizontal angle. An original image is deformed in proportion to the angle(s) to produce the display image. The original image may also be resized for storage in memory and/or to fit within a specified or usable area of the display device. An apparatus for preventing keystone distortion includes a digitizer module to receive and resize an original image (e.g., reduce it) for storage and a generator module to resize (e.g., enlarge) the image to fit the display device. Deformation of the image to prevent keystone distortion may be performed in either or both of the digitizer and generator for either or both a vertical and horizontal angle.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1999Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Macronix International Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shuei-Lin Chen, Chun-Hung Chen, Hou-Chun Ting, Meng-Shan Yang, Ting-Yao Chang, Chun-Hao Kuo
