  • Publication number: 20140145075
Abstract: An API (Atmospheric Pressure Interface) ion source and a mass spectrometer with the same are disclosed. In the disclosed API ion source and the mass spectrometer with the same, the included angle ? between the capillary (2) and the mass analyzer (4) of the mass spectrometer (10) is 80°˜150°. The repeller electrode (3) is installed outside the included angle a and a 110˜380V DC voltage is applied thereto, so that the sample ions with low kinetic energy in the sample ion flow passed through the capillary (2) change the flying direction thereof by an angle with 180°-? and subsequently enter the mass analyzer (4).

  • Patent number: 7315020
Abstract: The ionization chamber consists of a plurality of ports to accept multiple identical devices or varying devices. Ports may be arranged at various positions on the ionization chamber and at various angles with respect to the sampling orifice leading into the vacuum chamber of the mass spectrometer. A plurality of sprayers may operate in a time modulated manner and thereby the simultaneous multiplexed analysis of a multitude of samples is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 7126115
Abstract: The present invention provides a nanospray means and method for use in mass analysis instruments. Specifically, a nanospray assembly is composed in part of a base, union, retainer, and nanospray needle, and an entrance cap, first capillary section, and union. Adjustments to the position of the nanospray needle within this assembly are made independent of the remainder of the ion source. The nanospray assembly is integrated with the remainder of the source by joining the first capillary section (of the nanospray assembly) with a second capillary section which is fixed in the body of the source.

  • Patent number: 6809312
Abstract: The present invention is for an improved ionization source chamber and ion beam delivery system which includes a vacuum chamber and flange arrangement, for mounting the means for transferring sample ions from the port to a mass analyzer and for mounting the ion production means, respectively. The flange containing the ion production means may be attached to the vacuum chamber via a hinge such that the flange can open as a door to provide easy access to the ion transfer electrodes in the vacuum chamber. Further, a variety of different ion production means may be mounted on the flange of the ionization source chamber of the present invention. As a result, any ion production means may be used with the present invention by substituting a flange which includes the desired ion production means.

  • Patent number: 6797948
Abstract: Disclosed is an ion guide for transferring ions from and ion source through vacuum regions in a mass spectrometer. The ion guide includes a housing with insulating holders provided to secure electrode rods of multiple devices in longitudinal alignment for the transmission of ions from the ion source to a mass analyzer. The device comprise a plurality of electrode rods each having at least one connecting leg. The rods are connected to the insulating holders via these connecting legs using connecting plates mounted on either side of and adjacent to each insulating border such that the connecting plates are in electrical contact with connecting legs. The connecting plates also have positioning groves to hold the connecting legs in position such that electrical contact is maintained between groups of the electrode rods.

  • Patent number: 6770871
Abstract: A tandem mass spectrometer is provided including two mass analyzers with an ion fragmentation device interposed between the two mass analyzers. The first mass analyzer is a non-destructive mass analyzer, such as an ion trap, to initially collect and hold parent ions and sequentially release parent ions of known mass to charge ratio. The released parent ions pass through the fragmentation device, such as a collision cell, where the parent ions are fragmented into daughter ions. These daughter ions then pass on to the second mass analyzer. The second mass analyzer is of a high speed full spectrum type, such as a time of flight analyzer, so that a full spectrum of mass data is provided for the daughter ions, to go with parent ion mass spectrum data from the first mass analyzer.
