    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an encoding or decoding method and apparatus. The method includes: extracting first information in a bitstream; determining a chroma component intra prediction mode according to the first information; when the chroma component intra prediction mode cannot be determined according to the first information, extracting second information in the bitstream; and determining the chroma component intra prediction mode according to the second information, where the first information includes information for indicating whether the chroma component intra prediction mode is a DM mode or an LM mode, the second information is used to indicate a remaining mode as the chroma component intra prediction mode, and the remaining mode is one of available chroma component intra prediction modes other than a mode that may be determined according to the first information.

    Abstract: Most of large-scale image retrieval systems are based on Bag-of-Visual-Words model. However, traditional Bag-of-Visual-Words model does not well capture the geometric context among local features in images, which plays an important role in image retrieval. In order to fully explore geometric context of all visual words in images, efficient global geometric verification methods have been attracting lots of attention. Unfortunately, current existing global geometric verification methods are either computationally expensive to ensure real-time response. To solve the above problems, a novel geometric coding algorithm is used to encode the spatial context among local features for large scale partial duplicate image retrieval. With geometric square coding and geometric fan coding, our geometric coding scheme encodes the spatial relationships of local features into three geo-maps, which are used for global verification to remove spatially inconsistent matches.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method and an apparatus for detecting frame types. The method includes: detecting play time of each frame; and if the play time of a current frame is less than the maximum play time of received frames, determining the current frame as a bi-directional predicted frame, B-frame. In the technical solutions provided by the embodiments of the present invention, the frame types are determined according to a coding sequence of various frames and comparison between data amounts of various frames received earlier and later, without decoding a payload. Therefore the impact of a reduction factor is eliminated and the frame types can be detected more accurately.

    Abstract: Template matching intra prediction based on a given priority is provided. Priority values of all, or a subset of the pixels on a border between a current block and a reconstructed area are calculated. A border pixel with the highest priority is used as the center of a template block. A search for the best matched candidate template is performed in the reconstructed area. Distortion metrics between known pixels in the to-match template and corresponding pixels in candidate templates are calculated and compared. The candidate template with the smallest distortion metric value is chosen as the best match. Corresponding pixels of the best-matched candidate template in the searching area are used as predictors of the unknown pixels in the template centered at the pixel with the highest priority, and the predicted pixels are marked as known. The process is repeated until all pixels in the current block are marked as known.

    Abstract: A method, electronic device, computer program product, system and circuit assembly are provided for allocating one or more redundant pictures by taking into consideration the information content of the primary pictures, with which the redundant pictures would be associated. In particular, primary pictures that are determined to be more sensitive to transmission loss or corruption may be allocated one or more redundant pictures, while those that are less sensitive may not be so allocated. By selectively allocating redundant pictures to only those primary pictures that are more sensitive, the method disclosed reduces the amount of overhead associated with redundant pictures and increases the coding efficiency, without sacrificing the integrity of the video data.

The mechanism includes a distortion estimator for each macroblock that reacts to channel errors such as packet losses or errors in video segments affected by error propagation; a Lagrange multiple selector for selecting a weighting factor according to estimated or signaled channel error rate, and a mode decision module or algorithm to choose the optimal mode based on encoding parameters. The mode decision module is configured to select the coding mode based on a sum of the estimated coding distortion and the estimated coding rate multiplied by the weighting factor.
