Abstract: A method and a system are provided for indexing returns of goods by a payment card holder to a merchant. The method includes retrieving a first set of information including payment card transaction information of a plurality of payment card holders; retrieving a second set of information including merchant information of a plurality of merchants; creating one or more benchmarks for a rate of return of goods by a plurality of payment card holders to a plurality of merchants; identifying a second rate of return of goods by a plurality of payment card holders to a selected merchant; and generating one or more indices based on the one or more benchmarks for the rate of return of goods by the plurality of payment card holders to the plurality of merchants and the second rate of return of goods by the plurality of payment card holders to the selected merchant.
