Patent number: 9877354Abstract: A method and system are provided for transmitting information in a Mobile Internet Protocol (IP) environment, which includes a home agent (HA) provided at a home network, a base station (BS) broadcasting a pilot signal, a foreign agent (FA) provided at or associated with the BS, a mobile node (MN) providing the ability to detect and identify itself to a BS, a proxy mobile node (PMN) Identifying the MN wherein the PMN is provided at the BS. If the PMN identifies the MN, the PMN retrieves an IP address for each of the MN, FA and HA and sends a registration request to the FA. The FA relays the registration request to the HA, and the proxy MN is registered with the HA. Thus, the MN functionality is provided transparently to the MN by the PMN. This significantly simplifies the configuration of the MN and the Mobile IP network.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2015Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventor: Howard Andrew Heller

The network may further include a further base station (BS) with a further foreign agent (FA) provided at or associated with the new BS. Another PMN is provided at the further BS.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2006Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventor: Howard Andrew Heller

Patent number: 7843884Abstract: A method and system is provided for transmitting information from a mobile computer to a server utilizing point-to-point protocol (PPP). The system enables a PPP session to be maintained between a mobile user device and a PPP termination device. A Mobile IP address is assigned to customer premise equipment (CPE) associated with the user device, e.g., a PC. The CPE includes a Mobile IP Mobile Node and L2TP access concentrator (LAC). The Mobile IP address is registered with a Home Agent. The PC initiates a PPP session to the LAC, which initiates an L2TP session to an L2TP Network Server (LNS) via a tunnel between the Home Agent and the a Foreign Agent. The Mobile IP Mobile Node registers with the Home Agent each time it detects a new base station. Thus, the Home Agent is informed of the new location to forward IP packets for the mobile computer.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2005Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventor: Howard Andrew Heller

Patent number: 6947400Abstract: A method and system is provided for transmitting information from a mobile computer to a server utilizing point-to-point protocol (PPP). The PC initiates a PPP session to the LAC, which initiates an L2TP session to an L2TP Network Server (LNS) via a tunel between the Home Agent and a Foreign Agent. The Mobile IP Mobile Node registers with the Home Agent each time it detects a new base station. Thus, the Home Agent is informed of the new location to forward IP packets for the mobile computer.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2001Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventor: Howard Andrew Heller

Publication number: 20020101857Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for transmitting information from a computer to a server utilizing point-to-point protocol (PPP) in a mobile environment. The system enables a PPP session to be maintained between a user device and a PPP termination device while the user device is mobile. According to a particular embodiment of the invention, a Mobile IP address is assigned to customer premise equipment (CPE) device associated with a user device, e.g., a PC. The CPE includes a Mobile IP Mobile Node and L2TP access concentrator (LAC) functionality. The Mobile IP address is then registered with a Mobile IP Home Agent associated with the home network for the assigned Mobile IP address. The PC initiates a point-to-point protocol (PPP) session to the LAC within the CPE. The LAC initiates an L2TP session to an LNS. Between the LAC and the LNS there is a Mobile IP Network consisting of Mobile IP Foreign Agents at base stations and a Mobile IP Home Agent at the home network associated with the LNS.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2001Publication date: August 1, 2002Applicant: Tantivy Communications, Inc.Inventor: Howard Andrew Heller
