  • Patent number: 5478083
Abstract: A golf training aid which pro-actively trains the golfer to use the upper body muscles to stroke a putt using the golfer's preferred putter. A "paddle-like" handle having substantially flat planar surfaces is attached to the top of the putter shaft. The paddle is held with the golfer's hands open and finger extended by applying inward pressure on both hands. This inward pressure helps to freeze the golfer's muscles in the hands, wrists, and forearms forcing the golfer to use the larger upper body muscles to stroke the putt. In one embodiment the paddle is secured to the grip of the putter by straps laminated with tacky elastomer material and Velcro. The closed straps press the grip against a slot in the paddle lined with elastomer material. The friction thus produced maintains the parallel alignment of the paddle with the face of the putter head. A second embodiment discloses a paddle which is split in halves with a slot formed between the halves.
