    Abstract: A sand jack having a box containing sand and a lid are joined to a screw jack and both temporarily support a structure. When it is desired to remove the screw jack, sand is released from the box to reduce loading on the screw jack and enable the screw jack to be removed or to allow the nut on the screw jack to be rotated.
