  • Patent number: 9286808
Abstract: The invention provides an electronic method for assessing student skills on a stringed musical instrument, based on comparing the digital signature of an expert template sound to the digital signature of a student's attempt to replicate the template on the stringed instrument. In particular the method employs in sequential series an audio input device, an analog-to-digital converter, an audio correlation decoder, a digital-to-analog converter, and an audio output device; in certain embodiments they are all under the control of the same central control processor, which also has access to a first addressable data memory including unprocessed emulations from a student, a logic filter circuit element, a second addressable data memory including emulations from the student that have been filtered to remove background noise and other extraneous elements, and an addressable data memory including expert templates for incremental components of stringed musical performance.

  • Patent number: 8633370
Abstract: The present invention provides a complementary bifurcated circuit to process and optimize music digitally with high fidelity yet with wireless elements. In a particular embodiment, an audio transducer in close proximity to a musical instrument or vocalist's mouth transforms audible music to analog electrical signals, which are digitized and then filtered to remove external noise at the frequencies of alternating current as well as internally generated noise. A FPGA encoder optimizes the signal's latency and formats the signal for wireless transmission, which is then accomplished with a transmitter and receiver. A transmitter control interface programs one or more of the digital encoder, digital processor, FPGA encoder and wireless transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20080120043
Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus and a methods for collecting, transmitting and storing fugitive gas emission data. An embodiment of the invention collects fugitive gas with a sampling probe and into a emission monitoring device. The device then sends and stores fugitive gas data into a storage medium, such as a wireless data-logging adapter. The wireless-data logging adapter stores the data and wirelessly sends it to a personal digital assistant or other form of redundant memory such as a data logger. In one embodiment, the PDA can initiate commands to retrieve data from the storage medium or operate the emission gas monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 6683569
Abstract: The present invention is a method of determining the time of arrival of an incident signal transmitted utilizing a code word that is interspersed with noise and diffracted and reflected signals of the incident signal. The incident, diffracted and reflected signals and noise are collectively defined as a combined signal. The method comprises receiving the combined signal; obtaining the code word to apply to the combined signal; comparing the combined signal with the code word to filter the incident signal and diffracted and reflected signals arising from the incident signal from the combined signal; utilizing the incident signal and related diffracted and reflected signals to determine a first parameter indicative of the incident signal's time of arrival; and filtering the first parameter utilizing a multipath mitigation algorithm to mitigate the influence of the diffracted and reflected signals to obtain a second parameter indicative of the incident signal's time of arrival.
