Patent number: 9432734Abstract: A method for multi-person and multi-device content personalization is described. The method includes receiving via a wireless network interface a first user identifier advertised by a portable client device; determining that the signal strength of the portable client device at the wireless network interface is greater than a threshold value; and selecting content items in a sequence based on consumption statistics of content associated with a second user identifier on the media device and consumption statistics of content associated with the first user identifier, wherein consumption statistics include records indicating one or more interactions with the content items of a plurality of content items by one or more users associated with user identifiers.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2014Date of Patent: August 30, 2016Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Howard Cooperstein, Ryan Uhrich, Barnaby Falls

Publication number: 20120144413Abstract: A technology is described for ranking content using user feedback. A method can include presenting a content entry to a plurality of users to enable viewing of the content entry. Positive and negative ratings can be captured about the content entry from the plurality of users. A relative deviation value can be calculated using the positive ratings and negative ratings for the content entry to form a raw rating score using a processor. Another operation can be scaling the raw rating score via a power function to form a controversial rating score using a processor. The content entry may then be displayed in a ranked order with other content entries based on the controversial rating score.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2010Publication date: June 7, 2012Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Jianwen Wang, Runfang Zhou, Xin Yu, Zhaowei Jiang, Howard Cooperstein, Andy Sze-Chai Chan, Pierre Aoun, Aparna Thyagarajan

Publication number: 20110072396Abstract: A computing system for providing a user interface control to modify properties of items within a main application window. The computing system has a main application window, a gallery control window, a control object selection processing module, and a control object focus processing module. The main application window contains one or more application items, each application item having one or more control properties affecting a behavior of the application item. The gallery control window contains a list of one or more control objects for modifying control properties of the application items located within the main application window. Each of the control objects in the list of control objects includes a graphical icon having a selection portion and a properties portion and one or more control properties that affect one or more items within the main application window.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2010Publication date: March 24, 2011Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Ronald Stephen Giesen, Kenneth Coleman, Aaron Weiss, Zeke Koch, Marc Keller, Howard Cooperstein

Publication number: 20070180397Abstract: A canvas in an inking application is created and manipulated based on ink strokes. An ink stroke outside a presented canvas, even outside a user interface of the inking application, is recorded and the presented canvas enlarged to cover the recorded ink stroke. If the ink stroke begins on a command area such as a canvas size control icon, the command associated with the area is executed. If the ink stroke begins in a typed text area, lines are frozen and separated responsive to the first stroke. A new canvas is presented between the separated lines. A size of the new canvas is adjusted based on ink entry or a size of the first ink stroke.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2006Publication date: August 2, 2007Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Crystal Hoyer, Clifton Owen, Howard Cooperstein, Steven Breinberg, Guem Kim

Publication number: 20060107203Abstract: A method and system for rendering electronic document objects is provided in which a style matrix holds potential attribute values, and attribute references are used to address values in the style matrix. A mix of attribute references and actual attribute values may be used so make some attributes theme- and application-specific, and others theme- and application-independent. Further, a method for rendering a gallery of potential styles is provided. Additionally, a method for associating a style matrix with an electronic document application is provided. Finally, a computer-readable medium for storing a computer-interpretable data structure that identifies a matrix of style attribute types and style attribute values is provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2004Publication date: May 18, 2006Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: John Schilling, Howard Cooperstein, Michael Antonio, Keri Vandeberghe, Vlada Knowlton
